Dear PAN PIPES readers, S ummer is often a time for vacations, relaxation, and regenerating. This past summer, I had the unique opportunity to travel around the world during two performance trips. After two weeks of performing in Italy, I left ten days later for a week in Mendoza, Argentina as the Guest Artist for a music festival. Although I am not fluent in either Italian or Spanish, the universal language of music was the common thread during both trips. My biggest reward was the Student Recital during my stay in Mendoza. Most of my teaching was through a translator, which meant that I had to rely on using proper musical terms, coupled with a lot of physical gestures and my own playing. I was so proud of the students who successfully took my comments and interpretations and applied them directly to their own musical performances. The entire week affirmed that one's love of music needs to be shared world-wide! My summer traveling culminated in the summer National Executive Board meeting in St. Louis at the Union Station Hotel – the site for our Convention (July 23-27, 2015). After an extensive renovation, the hotel is ready for us to "raise our voices in dedication!" Plans are already being made to ensure that we will have another exciting, music-filled, and sisterhood-building gathering. I encourage you to make plans now to meet all of your sisters in St. Louis! While reading through this edition of Pan PiPes, I know that you will be inspired to make a difference in your chapter, on your campus, and in your community this Fraternity year. Music truly is a language out of mere words reach! Share your gift of music freely with everyone whom you come into contact with! Have a wonderful year!
