GAINESVILLE, FL VA Honor Center e VA Honor Center is a residential treatment center for veterans located in Gainesville. United Methodist Deaconess Nancy (Nan) Gordon is the Music Program Director and has created a thriving music program for the veterans receiving assistance. P2P has been able to send her guitars, keyboards, and even harmonicas. As reported in the Spting 2013 PAN PIPES: e HONOR Center (providing Hope, Opportunities, Networking, Outreach and Recovery) is a state-of-the-art residential treatment center for veterans. United Methodist Deaconess Nancy (Nan) Gordon is the Music Program Director at the 45-bed HONOR Center. e center has received gently used and new guitars, harmonicas, and electronic keyboards from the SAI People-to-People Project. Veterans who enroll in the HONOR Center Music Program commit to and follow a set of criteria: six lessons; passing a theory test; performing a service project in the residence; writing a letter of endorsement for inclusion in future grant applications; and participating in an outing to sing in the waiting rooms of the VA hospital in Gainesville. According to Ms. Gordon, if they successfully complete the program, veterans are awarded a guitar or keyboard to take with them upon discharge/ graduation from the HONOR center. Young musicians are provided with instruments and daily instruction. As they develop musical skills, they also develop skills they can apply to life success in a variety of arenas. The People-to-People project assists Albert Hunt, International Coordinator of SinfonÃa por la Vida, in acquiring music, instruments and accessories for the students, like this one, in Ecuador.
