In the last two years, President Benson has funded the Music Department for trips and helped expand Stephen Collins Foster Music Camp, which the department hosts each summer. J E N N I F E R A . B U G O S Jennifer A. Bugos was initiated by the Delta Chi Chapter in November. She currently serves as an Assistant Professor of Music Education at the University of South Florida where she teaches undergraduate courses in General Music Methods, Internship, and Senior Seminar. Bugos teaches graduate courses such as Foundations and Principles of Music Education and Lifelong Learning in Music Education. Dr. Bugos's main research interests include the neurological basis for music perception and cognition with regard to human development, lifespan learning, and cognitive transfer. Her research has been featured at national and international conferences such as the MENC National Conference, Society for Neuroscience, and the International Conference on Music Perception and Cognition. She has published in many journals such as the Bulletin for the Council of Research in Music Education and Research Perspectives in Music Education. D R . K E I T H KOT H M A N Dr. Keith Kothman was initiated by the Iota Chi Chapter in June. For the past 14 years, as an Associate Professor of Music eory at Ball State University, Kothman has contributed to the School of Music in many capacities. He served as the Director of the Music Engineering Technology Program, where he advised over 60 students. He also developed and supervised the department's internship program, developed grant proposals, and established the policies and expectations that make up the Central Recording Services at BSU. Recently, Dr. Kothman accepted a position at Montana State University — an institution with a growing music technology program. He received a Bachelor's and Master's in Music Composition and eory at the University of Texas, Austin, and his Doctorate in Music Composition from the University of California, San Diego. L AW R E N C E L A N E J R . Lawrence Lane Jr. was initiated by the Lake County Alumnae Chapter in November. He is the former principal trumpet player in the Northwest Indiana Symphony and the current principal solo cornetist of the South Shore Brass Band. He has worked as an educator in the School City of East Chicago for five decades and is currently very active in the Mariachi community of Northwest Indiana. Conductor of the South Shore Brass Band, Charles A. Mann, wrote that Lane is "a gentleman and a scholar, possessing a lifetime of achievement, loved and admired by his friends, held in great esteem by his colleagues, [and is] a true mentor to his admiring and adoring students." D R . PAY TO N M A C D O N A L D Dr. Payton MacDonald was initiated by the eta Kappa Chapter in November. A composer, improviser, percussionist, singer, and educator, MacDonald is a founding member of new-music chamber orchestra superstars Alarm Will Sound. He has also toured internationally as a solo marimbist and a member of various chamber ensembles, including Galaxy Percussion, NJPE, Present Music, and Verederos. He has commissioned numerous works from today's leading composers, including Charles Wuorinen, Don Freund, Elliott Sharp, and many others. A number of the world's best ensembles have performed MacDonald's music, including the the Los Angeles Philharmonic, JACK Quartet, and Alarm Will Sound. He earned his Bachelor's at the University of Michigan and his Master's and Doctorate at the Eastman School of Music. Further studies include Dhrupad vocal with the Gundecha Brothers. MacDonald has been to India many times, including for nine months as a Senior Fulbright-Nehru Fellow. MacDonald serves as a Full Professor of Music at William Paterson University and he is a Co-Artistic Director of SHASTRA, an organization that brings together the great music of India and the West. A L L A N C . R I P L E Y Allan C. Ripley was initiated by the Buffalo Alumnae Chapter in November. Ripley shares his passion for music through his role as a music educator, having taught at all levels from elementary school through college, and especially in his 32-year career as teacher of winds, percussion, band, and orchestra. He was executive director of the Erie County Music Educators Association from 2009 to 2015 and is currently ex officio member of the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra Board of Trustees. Ripley was awarded the Erie County Council of Music Coordinators/Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra "Award for Excellence in Music Education – Outstanding Instrumental Music Teacher." Although retired from teaching, Ripley continues to influence young musicians as conference exhibitor for Music Theater International and at various music festivals in the New York area.
