Dr. Nicole Paiement was initiated as an Honorary Member by the Dallas Alumnae Chapter in October. Dear Members of SAI, A s members of an International Music Fraternity, we realize how vital music is in our lives and culture. With the onset of spring, we experience the renewal of life across the country. That is definitely music to my ears! I know you will enjoy reading the enclosed articles under "The Healing Power of Music" which focus on music therapy. Since its inception, this profession changes people's lives through music. The pictures from World War II are a reminder that my own parents met because of music therapy; my father was in a hospital in Springfield, MO recovering from tuberculosis and my mother (Cornelia Findlay Odom, Iota Mu) was working with soldiers by playing music in their rooms. The rest, as they say, is history! With the coming of spring, our Fraternity year begins to slow down. We welcome all of our new members who have been initiated this semester. In addition, we are very excited with the addition of our newest collegiate chapters–Mu Pi at Fisk University and Mu Sigma at Lincoln University of Pennsylvania. Congratulations to Beth Lopez, NVP Extension, and these chapters for bringing all of their hard work to fruition. We also add to our ranks several Distinguished Members who honor us by accepting our invitation to membership in Sigma Alpha Iota. They, too, receive issues of Pan Pipes. Welcome! Take time to enjoy the beauty of the sounds around you as the "music of the spheres" works its magic on us! At bottom, the Tremble Clefs of San Diego County perform therapeutic stretches during a rehearsal.
