It was established as a part of the USAIHC's goal to inspire composers to write new works for the harp and to promote the instrument. With 114 scores submitted by composers from 34 different countries, this was the largest contest to date. e USAIHC is pleased to announce the 5 th Solo Harp Composition Contest winner. In first place is Sublimation by Jeremiah Siochi of Arlington, Virginia (USA). Mr. Siochi is an American composer and songwriter. His works have been performed by a diverse range of artists at festivals throughout the United States and featured on National Public Radio. Mr. Siochi's first place prize includes a $2,000 award funded by a generous grant from the American Harp Society. Sublimation will be published by Lyon & Healy, Inc. It is required repertoire for Stage III of the 10 th USA International Harp Competition. In addition to Sublimation, a selection of other Composition Contest entries will be presented at the Composer's Forum during the Competition on June 12, 2016. Others placing in the final round were: Nuance by Shai Cohen (Haifa, Israel), stuck. in.magazine. by Monika Dalach (Lodz, Poland), Nightly Monologue II by Karen Keyhani (Tehran, Iran), Night by Phil Taylor (Pittsburgh, PA, USA), and Sons of Hypnos by Bora Uymaz (Istanbul, Turkey). e international jury for the Composition Contest consisted of: Composer Hannah Lash (USA), and the following distinguished harpists: Jana Boušková (Czech Republic), Dr. Ruth K. Inglefield – Jury Chair (USA), Karen Lindquist (USA), Sivan Magen (Israel), Şirin Pancaroğlu (Turkey), and Ayako Shinozaki (Japan). e 10 th USA International Harp Competition will be held at Indiana University's Jacobs School of Music June 8-18, 2016. Since the Competition began in 1989, over 350 young harpists from 29 countries have come to Bloomington to participate in this prestigious competition that has launched the careers of many of the world's top harpists. roughout the ten day competition, approximately 50 of the world's most talented harpists between the ages of 18 and 32 will perform before an internationally renowned jury. e contestants vie for thousands of dollars in prize money, a Lyon & Healy concert grand harp, multiple debut recitals, and a recording contract. Prizes are awarded to the top eight finishers. the northern part of Michigan were interested in starting an alumnae chapter. On display was the banner from National Headquarters along with the pamphlets about membership, Patroness Membership, Distinguished Membership, and Philanthropies. e Grand Rapids Alumnae Chapter supplied a trifold board with various information, including pictures from chapters around the state and a poster from the centennial celebration, as well as a notebook which contained contact information for all the chapters in the state and scholarship material. ere were two flyers about local scholarships: one was from the Lansing/East Lansing Alumnae and the other from Alpha A, B and C Provinces offering a full scholarship to Blue Lake Music Camp this summer. ere was a basket of candy, a lovely vase of red roses, and a map of Michigan with alumnae chapters marked with a rose and collegiate chapters marked with an eighth note. On a separate easel were posted announcements about Province Days in Alpha A and Alpha B. We were sweetly surprised at the close of the conference when the men from Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia stopped by to serenade us. ey have recently chartered a new chapter in our province and have had inquiries about SAI starting a chapter at the school too! e most fun was seeing so many sisters approach the table wreathed in smiles of surprise and delight. Many new friends were made, and our sisterhood both renewed and strengthened, as a result of the generous contribution of the Music Education State Convention Grant and the alumnae chapters of Alpha A, B, and C. Our hope is that this will be a continuing event for our province. — Jane Renas, Editor, Detroit Alumnae Chapter editor Missouri The SAI booth at the 75th Annual Missouri Music Educators Association Convention saw about 100 sisters this year. We assisted four sisters in getting connected with the St. Louis Alumnae and Kansas City Alumnae Chapters, as well as reconnecting with five "lost" sisters. Members of the St. Louis Alumnae Chapter signed up in advance for slots to work the booth and the Columbia Alumnae Chapter helped to decorate the space.
