sai-national.org • SPRING 2017 • PAN PIPES 11 MUSIC CAREERS rights associated with the creation, along with the royalties collected from these rights. My company focuses on exploitation of the music for use in film, television, and commercials. Print music is a very small part of the overall music industry, and is shrinking rapidly due to online sources of music. Why do I tell this story? Well, I want flautists out there to realize that, in the event that something stands in the way of you being a performer or a teacher, that there are other options out there. Just think about anywhere music is used, heard, or purchased. ere is a business behind that use. And it is a great business, if you are willing to work hard. I love that I can be around music every day, work with musicians and creative people, and share that music with the world. I still play my flute today, and until my recent relocation to Los Angeles, I performed with several ensembles in the Greater Philadelphia Area. I have learned to overcome my injury to the point of being able to continue playing, while working in the industry. It is really the best of all possibilities. I love my job, and I wouldn't trade it for the world. io Specializing in Copyright, Licensing, Royalties and Publishing, Paula Savastano has worked in the music business for more than 25 year.
