PAN PIPES • SPRING 2017 • sai-national.org 28 Franz Liszt Festival & International Competition 2017 To promote scholarship and general understanding of the full creative and historical significance of Liszt on the education and development of both the composition and performance of music throughout the Western World, the Baltimore-Washington and Ohio Chapters of The American Liszt Society presents a competition open to solo performer or collaborators, ages 25 to 40, performing programs for any instrument/voice and piano. They must present a program balancing a repertory representative of major Lizt works by Franz Liszt and American compositions written after 1920. An ideal program would contain a sonata from the Classical to Contemporary periods as specified for each category. The contestants have the opportunity to complete their full recital programs with compositions of their choice, representative of different eras. The competition will held at Ohio State University in October 2017. Prizes to be announced. Membership in IAWM is required, but contestants may join at the time of entry. This call is open to IAWM members who identify as women. A range of prizes are available to a variety of composer demographics and compositions categories. A composer may submit only one (1) piece in any given year in only one (1) chosen category. The work submitted must be unpublished by a major publishing house and must have won no prior awards at the time of entry in the competition. Self-published works are allowed. Entries will be accepted from women only. All entries for the 2017 contest must be a drum feature. The winning and honorable mention compositions will be performed and recorded live by the Seattle Women's Jazz Orchestra with special guest Sherrie Maricle as part of the Earshot Jazz Festival in Seattle. The winner of the contest will receive a $400 honorarium, an audio recording of her composition performed live, and the winning piece will be published by SWOJO or their designated publisher. Only US composers can be selected to represent ISCM at the World Music Days. Works for solo instrument, small ensemble, or any combination up to a chamber orchestra may be submitted. Works featuring voice, choir, and/or electronic media will also be accepted. Works should be no longer than 20 minutes in duration. There are no stylistic limitations.
