PAN PIPES • SPRING 2017 • sai-national.org 8 N O P S T U X Y Z e Lambda Chi Chapter, at Cal State Fullerton (CSUF), crowned its first Mr. Red and White, Isaac Manriquez, on Friday, April 7, 2017. is marked the first year of Lambda Chi's fundraising event, an all-male pageant called Mr. Red and White. Eight men competed through four traditional pageant rounds: Group Dance, Talent, emed Outfit, and a combined round, Formal and Interview. ese men and many others at Cal State Fullerton donated their time and talent to help the Lambda Chi ladies raise money toward two goals: to fulfill a National Objective to give back to SAI Philanthropies, most especially Pan's Cottage, and to found a Lambda Chi music scholarship at CSUF's School of Music as a way to give back to their school community. is scholarship, which will be available for CSUF students to apply for in Spring 2018, will reward a student who has served their community or a person through music, honoring one of SAI's founding purposes. rough ticket sales, concession sales, and a rose petal guessing game the Lambda Chi ladies raised a clean $500. is amount will be split in half to go towards their two goals. e pageant judges consisted of the CSUF Associated Students, Inc. Student Body President Yanitza Berrios as the student representative, Director of the School of Music Dr. Marc Dickey as the faculty representative, and Shelly Suminski from the SAI Orange County Alumnae Chapter as the SAI representative. Dr. Marc Dickey wrote following the event, "I was pleased to serve as one of the judges for the first ever Mr. Red and White Pageant in the School of Music last Friday - a well organized, very successful, and extremely fun scholarship-raising event. Our professional music fraternities unquestionably make the School of Music a better place." Some have wondered how Mr. Red and White came about and how it benefits Lambda Chi beyond the financial aspect. e current president of Lambda Chi Lauren Graham responded, "As one of the three music fraternities at Cal State Fullerton, we had to think of an event that could be held annually and would be different enough from the other two fraternities' annual events to set us a part. us, aer some research into other SAI chapter events, Mr. Red and White was adopted." Concerning the benefit to Lambda Chi, "is event allows our sisters to gain valuable experience and skills in the areas of event planning, unique fundraising tactics, and marketing campaigns that they will be able to take into whatever career they enter aer college. It also brought us all closer together as a chapter. Lambda Chi Raises $500 for SAI Goals SAIS IN ACTION Everyone had a part to play and it all came together the day of the event. I don't think I've ever felt more proud or we've felt more like a sisterhood than when this event came to a close." Lambda Chi's Mr. Red and White is the only contestant who received a reward. Each year, Lambda Chi has an annual photo shoot to update and add new sister head shots for our yearbook. Mr. Red and White will receive a free professional headshot during this annual shoot. Other titles awarded at Mr. Red and White include Mr. Congeniality, awarded to the contestant who showed the most positive spirit and attitude through the rehearsal process and is voted on by the other contestants, and Audience Favorite, an award taken live by the show's audience. is year the winners were Isaac Manriquez for Mr. Red and White, Darren Willet for Mr. Congeniality, and Lucas Der Murgerdician as Audience Favorite. When asked about his experience Isaac Manriquez stated, "I had an absolute blast doing Mr. Red and White and only see it getting bigger and better from here! Lambda Chi should be proud of this event." — Lauren Graham, Lambda Chi Chapter President Isaac Manriquez was crowned Mister Red and White by the Lamda Chi Chapter at Cal State Fullerton to cap a fundraising effort for SAI Philanthropies.
