S igma Alpha Iota Philanthropies, Inc. reaches out to musicians and music programs around the world. Providing an internship in Arts Management at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC; supporting scholarships and grants for both undergraduate and graduate programs in music therapy, conducting, business technology; assisting educational music programs in schools, small studios, even prison systems; putting smiles on the faces of residents in senior living facilities — all of this and more is possible because of the generous support of SAI members. You are like that "pebble in a pond" that Margaret May Damen speaks about. When you contribute your portion, the ripples will travel out in ways you might have never imagined. A few of the recipients of support from SAI Philanthropies are pictured here. It is sure to warm your heart and renew your faith in the power of music as you see these wonderful stories. We invite you to donate to SAI Philanthropies with this mailing or by visiting our website at sai- national.org. Thank you for joining hands with other SAIs as we celebrate the power of music. W hen faced with the challenge of creating a new music program for students at the Pendleton Juvenile Correctional Facility, SAI member Leanna Smith turned to the People-to-People Project of Sigma Alpha Iota Philanthropies, Inc. Would there be any possibility of assistance with instruments, textbooks, or curriculum resources? Because of the generosity of members and chapters, the Project was able to supply a number of items for the class, including Boomwhackers, a CD player, small percussion instruments, and an autoharp. The Director of Education, Dr. Susan Lockwood, also an SAI sister, was encouraging, and now Leanna is also able to teach high school Music History and Appreciation so the inmates will receive Indiana high school credits. This is what SAI is all about — making a difference in lives through music.
