Susan Huffman, National President of Alpha Lambda Delta National Honor Society for First-Year Students, announced the recipients of the 2017-2018 Jo Anne J. Trow Scholar- ships. Alicia Smith of the Sigma Alpha Iota Beta Kappa Chapter at Texas Wesleyan University is one of the 2017 recipients. She plans to pursue a master's degree in music therapy. The Jo Anne J. Trow scholarship was started in 1988, in honor of past national president Jo Anne J. Trow, former Vice President for Student Services at Oregon State University. Each year Alpha Lambda Delta awards 36 Trow scholarships to outstanding undergraduate students across the country. The scholarship is open to any sophomore with a 3.5 GPA, strong academic records, campus and community involvement, and participation in Alpha Lambda Delta. Founded in 1924, Alpha Lambda Delta has over a million lifetime mem- bers and is present on over 275 campuses nationwide. Alpha Lambda Delta's mission is to "encourage superior academic achievement, to pro- mote intelligent living and a continued high standard of learning, and to assist students in recognizing and developing meaningful goals for their unique roles in society." SAI Receives National Honor Scholarship T hereza Lituma, of the Sigma Delta Chapter at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, received an SAI Summer Music Scholarship, which she used to support her opera studies in July in Sant'Angelo in Vado, Italy. In the Scuola Italia opera program for Young Singers, she coached scenes from Giulio Cesare, Falstaff, Gianni Schicchi, and Lucia di Lammermoor, and at the end of the program the group put on two performances for the surrounding community based on what they had learned. Thereza met other SAI sisters from different chapters while attending the program and shared, "It was incredible to find sisterhood on an entirely different continent, and to bond with other amazing women through our love of music. I have grown so much as a musician and I will always cherish the friendships and memories I made through the Scuola Italia Program." At the end of her trip she also had the opportunity to visit il duomo in Milan and to see a Mozart opera at La Scala. "I am so thankful to Sigma Alpha Iota for supporting my artistic endeavors so that I could have this amazing opportunity!" Opera in Italy
