We are always looking for members who are willing to give of their time and energ y in volunteer positions. Those elected officers, plus appointed positions, will be determined at our National Convention. I hope you will consider running for election or volunteering for an appointed position for the 2018-2021 Triennium. We, as members of SAI, know the power of music. In the past few months, we've seen natural disasters and man-made tragedies – all with heartbreaking results. Music has amazing properties that heal people after traumatic, life changing events. Join me in making a personal commitment to further the cause of music, here in the United States and around the world. Fraternally Leslie Odom Miller, National President Dear Readers, W elcome to the Fall of 2017 and all the possibilities it holds! is issue of Pan Pipes focuses on the musical accomplishments of our members, both individually and as members of groups. e annual awards were given and we've highlighted them to provide information and inspiration. What will you endeavor to do this year, to share music and better your community? Members of Sigma Alpha Iota have been busy this year, spreading music education while abroad, writing and recording, and performing at various venues. Whether it's volunteering and donating recorders in Australia (pg. 8) or lecturing on vocal jazz in Sweden (pg. 12), it is evident that we find value in sharing music and educating others. Learning from music history is a part of that education and we have a number of articles that relate: Dr. Elise Kirk has written a comprehensive text on music in the White House (pg. 9) and Jayne Hanlin takes on us a virtual tour of two museums, in New York City and Budapest (pg. 39). And then there are the performances and stories of personal journey. Look for new recordings by members, performances of new works such as Codebreaker (pg.18), the life and new projects of Adelina Puccini (pg. 14), and a musician's path to recovery from a brain injury (pg. 16). As always, we welcome new music related stories to share with our Pan Pipes readers and new volunteers to write them. Do you have an idea for an article, review, or interview? Is there a research topic or a local effort that you would like to write about? If so, please contact me at SAIPanPipesEditor@gmail.com so we can discuss your potential involvement. I can't wait to hear from you! SAI Roses, Christine Bruns Editor EDITOR'S NOTES
