PAN PIPES • FALL 2017 • sai-national.org 36 N ational Headquarters received a request from SAI member Maria Mucaria last year: Was there a violin available through the People-to-People Project? Pictured is Charles Madigan, a resident of the nursing facility where Maria provided professional services. Anne Piché, ATI Transition Specialist, learned that earlier in his life, Mr. Madigan played the violin in an orchestra. This was a very important part of his life, and he talked about it with much fondness. Matching up this need with the Midland Alumnae Chapter, Susan Christopher, People-to-People Project director, was able to facilitate a presentation. Within just a few short months, ATI received a violin in the mail. In delivering the instrument to Mr. Madigan, he said, "you have made me happy today." T he Midland Alumnae Chapter of Sigma Alpha Iota became aware of a need for one of your residents. The violin belonged to the Midland Public Schools and they donated it to our chapter when they stopped providing instruments to all students. The violin has been cleaned, new strings added and a new bow purchased. It should be in good playing condition. Our People-to-People program is a vital part of our Midland, Michigan alumnae chapter, and we are happy to have the opportunity to share music throughout the world. We would love to have a picture of Mr. Madigan playing his new violin! We hope Charles will have fun reconnecting with his love of music!
