PAN PIPES • SPRING 2018 • sai-national.org 2 A WORD FROM THE NATIONAL PRESIDENT Dear Members of Sigma Alpha Iota, I S hope you are making plans to attend our National Convention in Scottsdale, AZ this coming July 26-30. Plans are well under way for another unforgettable Convention. You won't want to miss the amazing performances and outstanding speakers, plus the many opportunities to meet sisters this summer. As a preview of some of the activities Convention has to offer, we have included an article by Anne Kleve, Regional Officer for Region 1, in which she describes her experiences during a visit to the Musical Instrument Museum, also known as the "MIM." Members in attendance at Convention will have the option to visit the MIM on Sunday aernoon. I guarantee that everyone who visits this incredible museum will find something intriguing and educational. In fact, you may want to build another day into your schedule so that you will have enough time to explore the many wonderful displays and special exhibits. During the National Executive Board's visit to the MIM last summer, we saw John Lennon's piano, Eric Clapton's guitar, and one of Elvis' stage costumes. SAI Philanthropies, Inc. gives over $100,000 each year to our members in grants and scholarships. ree of those recipients – Renae Perry, Megan Constantinides, and Carrie Graham – have written in this issue of PAN PIPES about how they used their SAI Professional Development Grants to engage in opportunities that would not have been possible without those grants. ese stories demonstrate how donations to SAI Philanthropies really can make a difference for our members. I encourage you to send your tax-deductible gis to SAI Philanthropies today, so that our members can continue to shape the world of music tomorrow Be sure to read the article about past National President Virginia "Ginny" Johnson, who was presented with the Dorothy Whinery Special Leadership Award at the 2015 National Convention. We also must thank her wonderful husband, Bill, who has been there by her side to lend his support to Ginny in her SAI endeavors. We cannot thank them enough for their faithful and unending devotion.
