PAN PIPES • SPRING 2018 • sai-national.org 32 D R . D E A N N A J O S E P H Dr. Deanna Joseph was initiated as a National Arts Associate by the Atlanta Alumnae Chapter in March. Dr. Joseph is Associate Professor of Music and Director of Choral Activities at the Georgia State University School of Music where she conducts the University Singers and leads the Masters program in Choral Conducting. In 2015, she was the recipient of the College of Arts and Sciences Outstanding Teacher Award at Georgia State, where she was selected out of a pool of over 800 faculty. In May of 2017, the University Singers under Dr. Josephs leadership won first place in the renowned Marktoberdorf International Chamber Choir Competition while on a concert tour of Austria and Bavaria. In May of 2013, the University Singers competed in La Florilège Vocal de Tours, where the choir placed second overall in the mixed choir category and Dr. Joseph was honored with the Prix du chef de choeur (conducting prize). e Georgia State University Singers have been invited to perform at two Southern Division conventions of the American Choral Directors Association and at two conventions of the Georgia Music Educator's Association during Dr. Joseph's tenure at GSU, and the Georgia State University Choirs have been hired to sing two productions of David Bintley's Carmina Burana with the Atlanta Ballet: in 2013 (North American premiere performances) and 2017. e choir's professional recording, Evening Hymn (Gothic Records), is distributed internationally by Naxos and is available for purchase or streaming on all the major music distribution outlets. Dr. Joseph is an active guest conductor and headline clinician, and she has conducted all-state and honor choirs in more than twelve states. She is a frequent conductor of choral- orchestral repertoire and has led performances of Mendelssohn's Elijah, Beethoven's Mass in C, Mozart's Requiem, Haydn's Creation and Lord Nelson Mass, Schubert's Mass in A-flat, and Bruckner's Mass in D Minor. She has prepared choirs to sing with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, the Atlanta Opera, and Andrea Bocelli. Dr. Joseph holds conducting degrees from the Eastman School of Music, where she was awarded the Walter Hagen Conducting Prize. She is the founder and artistic director of the Atlanta Summer Conducting Institute (ASCI), a weeklong, summer conducting master class that draws conductors from across the country. A L D O M A N C I N E L L I Aldo Mancinelli was initiated as a National Arts Associate by the Fort Worth Alumnae Chapter in February. Mancinelli was the first American to win the Italian Ferruccio Busoni Piano Competition and has been a Steinway Artist for many years. He made his debut at age 11, was the recipient of two Fullbright Scholarships, and received degrees from the Oberlin Conservatory of Music. Mancinelli has reached international acclaim by performing nearly 1,000 concerts throughout Europe, the Middle East, Southeast Asia, South America, and Tahiti,. He has appeared with the San Antonio Symphony, Hague Philharmonic, Royal Liverpool Orchestra, N.D.R. Symphony (Hamburg), Cleveland Orchestra, Santa Cecilia Orchestra (Rome), La Scala Orchestra (Milan), and the Dallas Symphony. His recordings include the Brahms F minor Sonata and Liszt B minor Ballade, Piano Music of Charles Griffes, the Beethoven Fourth Concerto with the Czech National Symphony in Prague (plus a Beethoven Sonata and Beethoven Variations); they have received wide critical acclaim. Aer serving the University of Tulsa as Artist-in-Residence for a number of years, he held the same position at Milliken University. J U D I T H M A N C I N E L L I Judith Mancinelli was initiated as a National Arts Associate by the Fort Worth Alumnae Chapter in February. A gied musician, she serves as a Steinway Artist, concert violinist, lecturer, and educator. She appears frequently in concert with her husband, Aldo. ey enjoy bringing four- hand duets to the concert stage, as well as solo works which have been recently released on CD. Judith plays with the Milliken-Decatur Symphony and she was a founding member of the Kirkland Trio, the resident faculty piano trio of Milliken University. She also plays in several string quartets in the central Illinois area. Her lectures include topics ranging from Beethoven to jazz. She is also a frequent adjudicator for competitions and festivals and serves annually as a judge for the National Guild of Piano Teachers. Mancinelli is an esteemed music educator, having taught piano, chamber music, and keyboard accompanying at Milliken University for 34 years. She previously taught at the University of Tulsa where she served as staff accompanist. C Y N T H I A N OT T Cynthia Nott was initiated as a National Arts Associate by e Dallas Alumnae Chapter in February. A nationally recognized choral educator, Nott has served as Artistic Director of the Children's Chorus of Greater Dallas since its inception in 1997. Under her leadership, the chorus has grown dramatically, earned the respect of the Dallas area music community, and impressed audiences with its artistic excellence. In addition to its regular concert schedule, Nott has prepared the chorus DISTINGUISHED MEMBERS
