It was a collaborative effort with the Girl Scouts of Northeast Kansas and Northwest Missouri and provided an opportunity for young women in the area to learn, experience, and express themselves through music. The event titled "We Run the World: Music Badge Workshop" hosted 60 girls and included five main sessions: "Music Theory and History", "Make Your Own Musical Instruments", "Music Education Games: Theory in Practice", "Overcoming Stage Fright: Finding Your Voice", and "Song Writing". The sessions were led by members of the chapter and volunteers from the music faculty. The day also consisted of two full group rehearsals and closed with a recital for family and community members. For this program, the Northeast Kansas/Northwest Missouri council presented the Theta Chapter with a community recognition award in June 2018. In early fall 2017, Hurricane Harvey inflicted billions of dollars of damage in the Houston metropolitan area. This chapter set their eyes on a middle school which lost many of its supplies, including instruments, in the natural disaster. To accomplish their goal, the chapter hosted multiple events, including an annual Philanthropy Dinner which was well attended by university students, community residents, and SAI alumnae and patronesses. This event raised over $1,000 for the cause and was combined with a separate instrument drive where multiple donations were received. Holding true to the mission of Sigma Alpha Iota, Sigma Gamma sought to encourage, nurture, and support the art of music in a community that was outside of their local environment.
