As a musician, Naomi started her matriculation at the age of nine years old. Saxophone is her primary instrument; Bassoon her secondary. Naomi was first introduced to jazz at the age of twelve under the baton of Mr. Robert Jeffery at Young Middle School. After participating in numerous Youth ensembles and combos, primarily under the tutelage of Gordon Vernick at Georgia State University, (Rialto Jazz for Kids/ Rialto Jazz.), Naomi knew that pursuing jazz and Saxophone studies as a career was an exciting possibility. Throughout her time as a student, Naomi has had the opportunity to perform for several Atlanta City Councilmen, Rev. Jesse Jackson's "Rainbow Push Coalition", annually at the Atlanta Jazz Festival, attend Masterclasses with Al Jarreau, shared the stage and studied with Jazz greats such as Russell Gunn, Gordon Vernick, Mason Hubbard, Frank Houston, Wycliffe Gordon, Scotty Barnhart, Robert Griffin, Carlos Vega, Longineu Parsons, Lindsey B. Sarjent, Brian Hall and many more. Naomi's main goal is to inspire young musicians to excel in the classroom, in music, and in their personal and professional lives. An Honor roll scholar, Naomi realizes the importance of maintaining a balance between music and her studies. As a member of Sigma Alpha Iota International Music Fraternity, Naomi supports the mission of furthering the development of music in America. She has produced and played in several productions for this wonderful fraternity while at FAMU; most recently, for Awareness of Domestic Violence. With no intentions of slowing down, post -graduation, Naomi would like to continue her education at The Berklee College of Music. Aside from teaching, Naomi's goal as a musician is to perform alongside major recording artists, major jazz orchestras, and record and tour with her own creative music.
