PAN PIPES Winter 2019 31 DISTINGUISHED MEMBERS performed at festivals such as the Bay View Music Festival, Piccolo Spoleto Festival, Interlochen Summer Music Camp, and the Moravian Music Festival. As a soloist, Joni Roos has made numerous appearances with the Chamber Orchestra of Florida, the Space Coast Pops, the Brevard Community Orchestra, the Space Coast Symphony Orchestra, and the Bach Festival Orchestra. Her solo appearances with the Bach Festival Orchestra include a performance of the Mozart Adagio at the Galway Cathedral in Ireland. She is currently the Concertmaster of the Space Coast Pops and Principal Second of the Bach Festival Orchestra. In addition, she performs regularly with the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra. Professional orchestral experience includes the positions of principal second of Florida Symphony Orchestra and concertmaster of Romberg as well as Gilbert and Sullivan touring productions. Darita Seth Nominated for Distinguished Membership by the Eta Xi Chapter at the Central Michigan University, the East Bay (CA) Alumnae Chapter conducted the Friend of the Arts initiation for Darita Seth in May. Seth serves as Director of Music at St. Timothy's Episcopal Church in Danville, CA. Recently, Darita concluded his tenure with Chanticleer, the Grammy Award-winning, San Francisco-based men's vocal ensemble. He periodically appears as a guest soloist with the Bay Area Rainbow Symphony, sounding light Chamber Choir, and Reconciliation Singers Voices of Peace. Prior to his transplant to the San Francisco-Bay Area, Darita attended Capital University's Conservatory of Music where he studied vocal performance. While at Capital, Darita sang with the renowned Chapel Choir, Philomel, and performed roles in operatic and music theatre productions. While pursuing his undergraduate degree, Darita began studying countertenor while immersed in the sacred early music at Saint Joseph Cathedral in Columbus. Darita is also a proud alumnus of the Interlochen Arts Academy and Camp, where he participated in the composition, opera, and choral programs, as well as spending summers working for the offices of Advancement and Arts Administration. Darita is an active member of ACDA, NATS, and ASCAP. Dr. Cynthia Taggart Dr. Cynthia Taggart was initiated as a Friend of the Arts by the Alpha Lambda Chapter at Michigan State University in November. She is a Professor of Music Education at Michigan State University's College of Music and the director of the Early Childhood Music Program at the Community Music School. She has been influential in the research and study of early childhood music across the world. In addition to being a faculty member, she is immediate past president of the College Music Society. Prior to teaching at MSU, she taught for four years at Case Western Reserve University, where she won the Undergraduate Teaching Excellence Award for the Humanities and Social Sciences. She also has extensive elementary and preschool teaching experience in Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania. Taggart's publications include co-authorship of Music Play, Best Music for Young Bands and co-editorship of Learning from Young Children, e Development and Practical Application of Music Learning eory, and Readings in Music Learning eory, in which she wrote chapters entitled "e Measurement and Evaluation of Music Aptitudes and Achievement" and "Rhythm Syllables: A Comparison of Systems." She is also in the process of co-authoring Jump Right In: e General Music Curriculum. In addition, she has written extensively for professional journals. Her research interests are early childhood music, measurement, psychology of music, music learning theory, and music aptitude. She received her Bachelor's and Master's in Music Education from University of Michigan and her Doctorate in Music Education from Temple University and has published dozens of scholarly works. Dr. Hamilton Tescarollo Dr. Hamilton Tescarollo was initiated as a Friend of the Arts by the Fort Wayne Alumnae Chapter in September. He currently serves as Associate Professor and Director of Keyboard Studies at Purdue University-Fort Wayne (PFW). He also teaches both young and professional pianists through the PFW Community Arts Academy and directs the PFW Gene Marcus Piano Camp and Competition. In addition, he regularly presents piano master classes both nationally and internationally, and is a frequent competition adjudicator and lecturer. A dedicated teacher, Tescarollo has received several "Teacher of the Year" awards. Also active as a concert pianist and accompanist, he has made solo and collaborative appearances in the United States, Canada, Europe, and South America. Since his debut with the São Paulo State Symphony Orchestra he has made solo and collaborative appearances in the United States, Canada, Europe, and South America. Recent performances have taken him to Argentina, Austria, Brazil, Germany, Hungary, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, and a number of US states. A versatile musician who performs both the mainstream and the avant-garde repertory, he frequently includes the music of his native Brazil and other Latin-American countries in his programs. His duo with cellist Carlos Audi (Audi-Tescarollo Duo) also focuses on South- American music. With Venezuelan clarinetist Jorge Montilla, he recorded the album La Revoltosa which features contemporary works by composers of both North and South America. He can also be heard on two CDs with saxophonist Farrell Vernon. His students have been prizewinners of many piano contests, including the Phoenix Symphony Guild Concerto Competition, Indianapolis Symphony Young Musicians Competition, Sewannee Summer Music Center Concerto Competition, Indiana Hoosier Auditions, and MTNA Competitions. ey have also been awarded numerous scholarships and grants to attend summer camps, such as Interlochen, Brevard, Idylwild, Adamant, Sewannee, and Saarburg (Germany). He has held teaching positions at Faculdade Santa Marcelina, e Municipal School of Music of São Paulo, and Arizona State University, and has also taught at the Saarburg International Music Festival in Germany. As Associate Professor of Music and Director of Keyboard Studies at IPFW, he teaches applied piano and piano-related courses and coordinates the piano and organ areas. He also teaches both young and professional pianists through the IPFW Community Arts Academy and directs the IPFW Gene Marcus Piano Camp and Roos Seth Taggart Tescarollo
