John M. Jay Watkins, Jr. John M. Jay Watkins Jr. was initiated as a Friend of the Arts by the Delta Gamma Chapter at the University of Florida. He serves the Gator Nation as the Associate Director of Bands, Director of Athletic Bands, Assistant Professor in the School of Music, and as the Director of the Pride of the Sunshine Gator Marching Band. Prior to his appointment at UF, he served as Assistant to the Director of Bands, Assistant Director of the Longhorn Band, and Conductor of the Longhorn Basketball, Volleyball, and Concert Bands at e University of Texas at Austin, where he was the principle guest conductor of the Symphony Band and the show designer for the Longhorn Band. In the past, ensembles under his direction have performed and recorded with over 36 Grammy-award winning artists in a program he developed to integrate the academic, athletics, and live music communities of Central Texas. Prior to his appointment at Texas, he served as the Director of Bands and Associate Professor of Music at Charleston Southern University (SC), where he was also the Coordinator of Instrumental Music Education. Watkins has received recognition as the CSU Outstanding Faculty Member of the Year and as a recipient of the National Band Association's Citation of Excellence, and was the Founder, Music Director and Conductor of e Lowcountry Winds, a professional wind ensemble based in Charleston, SC. He has also served as the Director of the U.S. Navy Drum & Bugle Corps and the Director of Instrumental Music at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD, and as a teacher in the public schools in North Carolina, Maryland and Virginia. Prior to his work in music education, he worked for the US Naval Research Laboratory as a research associate in the areas of liquid fuel propellants and their stability and published over 75 articles in refereed science journals. Watkins earned Bachelor of Science and Master of Music Education degrees from George Mason University and Valdosta State University. He holds professional memberships in numerous organizations, served as South Carolina State Chair and Southern Division Chair for the National Band Association, and is an elected member of Phi Beta Mu, the International Bandmaster's Fraternity. Mr. Watkins remains very active as a designer, clinician, and adjudicator throughout the country. Trent Weller Trent Weller was initiated as a Friend of the Arts by the Delta Gamma Chapter at the University of Florida in September. Weller is the School of Music Facilities Operations Specialist overseeing facility management, access, maintenance, and security. He oversees events and the rooms in the music building, and without him classes and music organizations like our own would not function efficiently. He also manages all of the school of music's instruments and keeps them organized in the instrument room, checking out instruments to music students who need them. He holds a Bachelor's in History from the University of Florida. Dr. A Douglas Whitten Dr. A. Douglas Whitten was initiated as a Friend of the Arts in November by Alpha Kappa Chapter at Pittsburg State University. Dr. Whitten is the director of Athletic Bands, the Symphonic Band, and the Tuba studio at Pittsburg State University. Prior to his appointment at Pitt State, Dr. Whitten was the Associate Director of Athletic Bands at Boise State University, Director of the Marching Band at e University of Dayton, and taught public school bands in Idaho and Nevada. He holds a Bachelor of Music in Tuba Performance from the University of Nevada, Reno, a Masters of Music from Boise State University, and earned his Doctorate in Education from Boise State University. Dr. Whitten has performed worldwide as a member of U.S. Army Bands and as a freelance musician. Highlights of his performance career include performances with several professional symphony orchestras in the United States and in Europe, jazz ensembles, chamber groups, and with popular entertainers such as the Moody Blues, Wayne Newton, Andy Williams, and the Captain and Tennille. Under Dr. Whitten's direction, the "Pride of the Plains" Marching Band has grown to 200 marching members and has earned a national reputation for its excellent and entertaining shows. Lisa Marie Woznicki Lisa Marie Woznicki was initiated as a Friend of the Arts by the Nu Delta Chapter at Towson University in December. She is the Performing Arts Librarian and Library Liaison to the Departments of Dance, Music, eater Arts, and Interdisciplinary Fine Arts for the Albert S. Cook Library at Towson University. Previously she was an adjunct professor for the music department, assistant library manager for the Baltimore County Public Library, and media specialist for Baltimore County Public Schools. She studied piano at the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University and earned her Bachelor Degrees in English Literature sand in Music and her Master's in Music Education from Towson University, and her Master's in Library Science from University of Maryland, College Park. Her material has been published in Notes: e Journal of the Music Library Association, Music Reference Quarterly, IAWM Journal: International Alliance for Women in Music, and Careers in Music Libraries, Approaches to Liaison Librarianship: Innovations in Organization & Engagement, and Outreach for Music Librarians.
