BEESON • NEWS: Elizabeth Beeson gave a lecture on "Educational Practices in Music Curriculum," Oct. 18, 2011, Houston. In addition to this season, Beeson has given lectures on the following topics, also in Houston: "Development of Church Chant," "Early Polyphony," "Forms and Genres in Medieval Music," "Musical Contributions in Liturgy," and "The Development of Vocal Chamber Ensembles and Choral Polyphony." In performance, she has given one organ concert in Houston this year, as well as numerous piano concerts, Sugarland, TX, featuring classical, religious, and entertainment styles. She also organized an instrumental ensemble beeson and gave seven performances playing piano with the ensemble in local locations. Beeson keeps a busy schedule of teaching applied music and music history to middle school and high school students as well as playing organ for weekly church services. In my series of articles written for The California Music Teacher, I try to encourage composers to write, giving more thought to engaging their players and audiences. In 2011 and 2012, I've been taking more time to perform my works for piano duo, and I'm positive this sharing experience has made me a more effective composer.
