Dr. Yeagley is the first American Indian composer to be commissioned to write a full-length movie score. Daughter of Dawn is an action drama, a love story, and a cultural treasure, with an all-Indian cast (Comanche and Kiowa). It was filmed in the Wichita Mountains of southwestern Oklahoma, the heart of Comanche land. There is a special web site about the movie and the score at daughterofdawn.com. Dr. Yeagley has also recently completed his first symphony (No. 1) The Four Horses of the Apocalypse, a major, four-movement work for large orchestra. This work was in honor of Comanche elder Eva Fawbush Doti. He has also completed a large piano sonata (No. 1) in four movements. In addition, he has written a four-movement duet for clarinet and bass clarinet, Two Crawdads on a Warm, Sunny Afternoon. He has also written a large-scale three-movement violin concerto, and is now working on his Piano Sonata No.2, Rosh Hashanah. The work directly relates to the spiritual significance of the Jewish High Holidays. The National Objectives 2012 – 2015 for Sigma Alpha Iota International Music Fraternity state, "We, the members of Sigma Alpha Iota, will advance American composers, especially women, through new commissions, performances of their works, and concert attendance." The Composers Bureau, a project of SAI Philanthropies, Inc., is here to support fulfillment of that objective. A link to the Composers Bureau is on the Sigma Alpha Iota home page: sai-national.org. You can search for information on all the members of the Composers Bureau, not just the ones who sent us an update for publication this year. Many composers have links to their personal websites, and performers can search the website to do research on composers and their works. Use the Composers Bureau as a springboard to support the American composer. And composers – you can update your Composers Bureau listing any time during the year, as well as in response to the annual request for updates sent to all members of the Composers Bureau in early fall. Please make sure we have your correct e-mail and street address so we may send you the update forms, or you can just contact me via e-mail me at slackman@rollins.edu.
