Fall 2019 28 PAN PIPES 2019 SAI Annual Awards Fraternity B arbara Johnson serves in many roles for the members of the Eta Mu chapter: academic advisor, piano professor, SAI faculty advisor, and most importantly, as a sister. She is described as truly embodying the ideal and spirit of Sigma Alpha Iota both, proving time and time again that she has the chapter and its members' best interest at heart. She has inspired chapter leaders with her kind words and consistent support, making an effort to attend chapter and executive board meetings regularly to help the collegiate members navigate chapter business. Barbara adds a personal touch to her role by taking the time to know each chapter member and by sharing inspirational stories from her own collegiate member experience as a way to illustrate and remind members why they pledged themselves to this fraternity and to bring the focus back to music. In the words of the chapter, "Being able to give us the sisterly energy we need is an important reminder that it's never too late to grow as members and as a chapter." A recipient of the Sword of Honor and Rose of Honor, Barbara is a wonderful representative of Eta Mu as well as the fraternity. Barbara is an Eta Mu initiate and received her Bachelor's and Master of Music from The Hartt School, University of Harford where she is currently a teacher of piano.
