Upon receiving an outreach grant for $500, the chapter worked hard to raise the matching $500. This was achieved through several bake sales, open mic nights, and a "Pie a Sister" event. The local collegiate chapter of NAfME reached out to Lambda Omicron with a suggestion for a local middle school in need of some assistance. As a result, the chapter contacted the Henry Filer Middle School band director, Mr. Perez, and requested an equipment wish list totaling $1,000. This wish list included an array of items such as valve oil, instrument harnesses, claves, a cabasa, mouthpieces, chimes, and a new drum stand. The chapter acquired the items and presented them to the school at a NAfME Benefit Concert in May where both the students and SAI members performed. E TA P S I Nor thern Kentucky University, Sigma A , Region VII The Eta Psi chapter hosted an event called "Rebel Roses: The Riot Girl Experience" on their campus this year. The initial "Riot Grrl" movement used all forms of music, art, and speech as vehicles to speak out against rape, sexual harassment, assault, abuse, and other injustices, especially pertaining to women. Eta Psi used this incredible movement as inspiration for their own event "Rebel Roses." This event featured different musical groups, poets, and other artisans performing and selling their work. Tickets to the event were sold along with handmade t-shirts and other crafts to raise $500 for a local women's shelter that aims to empower and support those impacted by domestic violence, dating violence, sexual violence, and stalking. C AT E G O R Y 2 ( 21 - 35 M E M B E R S ) B E TA L A M B D A Valparaiso University, Beta, Region V This year Beta Lambda implemented a new service project called "SAI Service Project Packets." These packets included personal written letters by each individual sister explaining her background in music, how music has impacted her life, and why she thought music should be an integral part of school curriculums. The packets also included several articles from accredited sources, such as NAfME, IMEA, and PBS, about music education and the importance of music in schools. The completed packets were sent to multiple school superintendents in the surrounding area. For their efforts, they received several responses from school officials thanking the chapter for reaching out. This project COLLEGIATE SERVICE PROJECT AWARDS
