He maintains an active schedule as a trombonist, conductor, and clinician. Richard David Knapp Richard David Knapp, D.O., was initiated as a Friend of the Arts by the Orlando Alumnae Chapter in November. Dr. Knapp is a psychiatrist and graduate of the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Knapp created the first adolescent addiction program in South Florida, had a private practice, and tested new medications as a research psychiatrist. As an ardent supporter of music, Dr. Knapp's affection for music began during his childhood, when he began taking banjo and piano lessons. While practicing psychiatry, Dr. Knapp learned to play the guitar and mandolin, and also played ragtime piano. Dr. Knapp enjoys collaborating musically with his wife, SAI Composer Bureau Director Dr. Susan Cohn Lackman, in his bands, practicing, and volunteering with musical organizations. Carol Ann Ostrom Carol Ann Ostrom was initiated as a Friend of the Arts by the Rockford Alumnae Chapter in September. Ostrom has enjoyed a long career as educator and collaborator, serving as staff accompanist at Rock Valley College from 1980 to 2017 and adjunct piano instructor since 1993. During this time, the Concert Choir, Chamber Singers, and Women's Choir performed at Carnegie Hall, the Washington Cathedral, and the White House. Carol is a wonderful communicator with and supporter of students, and she is a gied interpreter of choral literature. Carol has also served over fiy-five years as the Minister of Music at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, assisting worship with three different pastors and seven choral conductors. She is a long-time member of the American Guild of Organists and the Music Teachers National Association, as well as the Illinois State and Greater Rockford Area Music Teachers' Associations. She teaches piano students privately and was nominated as GRAMTA "Teacher of the Year" in 2019. Carol is a true friend of the musical arts to many in the Rockford community, as she volunteers her skills for Midway Village Museum, the Daughters of the Nile, Peterson Meadows, Sigma Alpha Iota, and countless weddings and funerals. She is a supporter of the Rockford Symphony Orchestra, Mendelssohn Center for the Performing Arts, and the Rockford Coronado Concert Association. Carol is a true teacher with great empathy for people and a friend to many musicians in Rockford. Carol attended Lawrence University and graduated with a B.M.E. from Capitol University. Cristina Rodriguez Cristina Rodriguez was initiated as a Friend of the Arts by the Lambda Omicron Chapter at Florida International University in November. Ms. Rodriguez is the Co-Founder and President of Mind&Melody, Inc., a non- profit organization that brings educational and therapeutic music programs to individuals with neurological impairments such as Alzheimer's. e idea sparked when she was a volunteer at Miami Children's Hospital. A passionate cellist herself, Ms. Rodriguez observed that when patients were exposed to music, it had a positive impact on their quality of life. Today her organization touches the lives of patients in nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and private residences throughout South Florida. Her accolades include being named the 2018 Coors Light LĂder of the Year and she received the Inspire305 Trailblazer Award. Ms. Rodriguez hopes to spread music through Mind&Melody nationwide. Dr. Meg Stohlmann Dr. Meg Stohlmann was initiated as a Friend of the Arts by the Epsilon eta Chapter at Appalachian State University in November. Dr. Stohlmann is an Assistant Professor of Music at the Hayes School of Music at Appalachian State University in Boone, NC. She conducts the Appalachian Glee Club, teaches and coordinates Class Voice, and supervises choral music education practicum students. A graduate of the United States Air Force Academy, Meg served on active duty in the Air Force for 5 years in Arizona, Korea, and Germany. Aer separating from the military, she earned her Masters degree in Voice Performance and Choral Conducting from the University of Kentucky in 2009, and she recently graduated from the University of Washington with a DMA in choral conducting. She is the director for the Appalachian Youth Chorale which is open to community children, ages 7-14. Watauga County is a low-income county and Dr. Stohlmann works with the Community Music School to provide music lessons at a reduced cost to help the county children receive a wonderful music education starting at a young age. Her hard work is evident in all she does for music education. She displays dedication to her field, passion for her work as well as community service, and a strong love for music. Her role in youth music education is actively creating a lasting legacy in the Appalachian community. Dr. Kristen Strandberg Dr. Kristen Strandberg was initiated as a Friend of the Arts by the Beta Epsilon Chapter at the University of Evansville in November. Dr. Strandberg has been an advisor for the Beta Epsilon Chapter for nearly two years while also serving the Music History professor at the University of Evansville. e chapter has earned an Impact Grant, and Dr. Strandberg has been coordinating with the guest artist to put the Impact Grant to use. She also spoke at Province Day in 2018 about women in music, when the Beta Epsilon Chapter hosted the event. Her recent publications include articles in the Journal of Musicological Research and the Journal of Music History Pedagog y. Dr. Strandberg's teaching and research is driven by her interest in how audiences hear music based on their cultural experiences and frames of reference. She has presented at conferences throughout the U.S. and Europe, recently appearing as a guest speaker at the annual conference of the National Chopin Institute in Poland. Dr. Strandberg earned a Bachelor of Music degree in Cello Performance from the University of Minnesota and a Ph.D in Musicolog y from Indiana University. Ostrom Rodriguez Stohlmann Strandberg Knapp
