SIGMA ALPHA IOTA ANNUAL AWARDS 2 0 2 0 FALL 2020 24 PAN PIPES NATIONAL ALUMNAE LEADERSHIP AWARD Catherine P. Bartoli Austin Alumnae, Kappa A, Region II C atherine began her musical studies with her grandmother on violin at an early age in Cambridge, NE. Following a three-generation family tradition, she graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, earning a degree in music education. She pledged the Kappa chapter of Sigma Alpha Iota in 1970, where she found true friends and musical inspiration. As a member of the Austin Alumnae Chapter, Catherine has held several offices: President, Vice President-Ritual, Recording Secretary, Vice President- Programs, and she served on numerous committees. She spearheaded serving refreshments at Austin Symphony rehearsals, co-chaired several scholarship benefit concerts, led sing-a-longs at local retirement communities, and performed on meeting musicales. She was a recipient of an SAI Continuing Education Award and has received the Sword of Honor and Rose of Honor. Catherine has been an active performer in the community, singing in various Austin choral ensembles and the local Gilbert and Sullivan Society. As soprano soloist she performed Faure's Requiem in D minor (Opus 48), Finzi's In Terra Pax, Haydn's Missa Brevis, Saint- Saëns' Oratorio de Noël, and Vivaldi's Gloria (RV 589). She founded the Stardust Four, a performing ensemble that sang songs from the 1920s, 30s, and 40s, ala the Andrews Sisters. Beginning in the 1980s, Catherine held full time positions as a legal assistant at The University of Texas School of Law and the Supreme Court of Texas. In 2004, Catherine entered the UT-Austin Butler School of Music's graduate sacred music program. She received her master's degree in choral conducting with sacred emphasis in 2008 and accepted an offer to serve as Director of Music at St. Luke's United Methodist Church in Midland, TX. Upon her return to Austin, Catherine happily renewed her SAI connections and continues to participate in chapter activities. She returned to full time church choral work at St. John's United Methodist Church in Georgetown, TX before retiring in 2019.
