P A N P I P E S Winter 2021 25 25 moving to Idaho, Murphy served as adjunct faculty at Barton College and East Carolina University. She currently is an active adjudicator and clinician in the state of Texas. She has been actively involved in NAfME, NCMEA, FMEA, IMEA, TCDA, and TMEA. Murphy, originally certified in K-12 music in NC, has taught all levels over the past twenty-two years in North Carolina, Florida, and Texas, both in public and college preparatory schools. Aer moving to Texas, she obtained her EC-12 certification in music while teaching at Nettie Marshall Academy of Dual Language in Nacogdoches. Professor Murphy served as conductor for the Greenville Choral Society Children's Chorus in North Carolina and was the founding conductor of the Palouse Choral Society Children's Choir in Idaho. Dr. Andrew Rhodes Dr. Andrew Rhodes was initiated as a Friend of the Arts by the Mu Delta Chapter at the University of Toledo in November. Dr. Rhodes serves as Assistant Director of Bands and Lecturer at the University of Toledo. He directs the Rocket Marching Band and conducts the Symphonic Band, teaches Tuba and Euphonium, and teaches several courses in music education. A native of Athens, OH, he received his Bachelor's in Music Education from Butler University and Master's in Music Education from Ohio University. He is a candidate for the Ed.D. in Music Education at the University of Illinois. Prior to his appointment at the University of Toledo, Rhodes taught for several years as a band director in the public schools of Columbus, OH and Memphis, TN, most recently at Watkins Overton High School for the Creative and Performing Arts with whom he made his Carnegie Hall debut. Rhodes also performed in multiple casts of the Tony and Emmy Award-winning Broadway show Blast! as a tuba player and vocalist. Dr. Rhodes is active throughout the United States as a conductor, tuba player, adjudicator, and clinician. He also holds professional or honorary memberships in the College Band Directors National Association, College Music Society, International Tuba Euphonium Association, MENC: National Association for Music Education, National Band Association, Ohio Music Education Association, Society for Music Teacher Education, Kappa Kappa Psi National Honorary Band Fraternity, and Pi Kappa Lambda National Music Honor Society. Rhodes also serves as president of the executive board of the Ohio University School of Music Society of Alumni and Friends. Dr. Bernardino Scarambone Dr. Bernardino Scarambone was initiated as a Friend of the Arts by the Eta Sigma Chapter at Eastern Kentucky University in September. Holding 13 prizes in national and international competitions, Dr. Scarambone has been performing and researching Brazilian music for over 16 years. With concerts and recitals in the US, Brazil, France, Spain, Italy, and Germany, he maintains a career as a teacher, pianist, adjudicator, and researcher. His recent research areas include contemporary repertoire for the piano, entrepreneurial career options for musicians, student preparation to face the job market, and community engagement through a series of Interactive Recitals. As a researcher, Dr. Scarambone's personal contact with Marlos Nobre was a crucial element for the completion of one of the most comprehensive studies of the composer's piano works and detailed biography in his book Hidden Treasures of Contemporary Music: e piano Works by Marlos Nobre, published in 2011. Scarambone also teaches in Salzburg and Italy during the summer as part of EKU's programs of studying abroad. He has served as an advisor for the Eta Sigma chapter since 2017. Dr. Joseph Tomasso Dr. Joseph Tomasso was initiated as a Friend of the Arts by the Epsilon Phi Chapter at Northwest Missouri State University in October. Dr. Tomasso established himself locally and internationally as a professional performer and educator. Locally, he teaches woodwind methods, instrumental composition and arranging, enjoyment of music, and applied lessons for all woodwind and reed players at Northwest Missouri State University. His contributions to the Fine Arts Department are seen in the successful recruitment of new woodwind/reed players at Northwest and in the quality of performance of the woodwind/reed players. Internationally, he was the first American to win AGIMUS Padua International Music Competition, and the first saxophonist to win multiple categories. In addition, he has performed in the World Saxophone Congress, North American Saxophone Alliance, and the World Association for Symphonic Bands and Ensembles. His wide-spread recognition and talents are inspiring and impressive. He earned his Bachelor's in Saxophone, Clarinet Performance from the University of Illinois- Urbana Champaign and holds a Masters in Oboe Performance from the University of Florida, as well as a Masters in Multiple Woodwind Performance from the University of North Carolina-Greensboro. He earned his Doctorate in Oboe Performance from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Ethnomusicology. Kay Woodburn Kay Woodburn was initiated as a Friend of the Arts by the Pasadena Alumnae Chapter in September. Mrs. Woodburn resides in Ventura, CA, where she is the office manager for her husband's surgery practice. Kay received her Bachelor's in Biology from University of California, Santa Barbara, and her Master's in Hospital Administration from California State University, Los Angeles. She has an extensive history, both as a musician and a supporter of music. During her lifetime, Kay has played both the piano and the violin. Since childhood she has constantly been a member of school, community, and church choral groups. She currently is lead alto in her church choir and is also director of the church's handbell program. Mrs. Woodburn also performs handbell solos, duets, and plays with other small ensembles. While her three daughters were in school, she always served as a chaperone on any trip that their school music groups took, including the high school Wind Ensemble on concert trips to Mexico and for a week in Boston. She is the daughter of 70+ member, Edie Pankey Marshall, and the late Charles (Chuck) Marshall, Friend of the Arts. She is also the aunt of Iota Pi initiate Laura Marshall Walters.
