P A N P I P E S Winter 2021 23 23 PA U L C H R I S TO P H E R Paul Christopher was initiated as a National Arts Associate by the Beta Iota Chapter at Northwestern State University in November. Mr. Christopher received his Bachelor of Music Education in May of 1981 at the New England Conservatory of music in Boston, MA and Master of Music in cello performance eight years later from the University of Memphis in Memphis, TN. Mr. Christopher serves as the Associate director of music theory and low strings at Northwestern State University. He has shown outstanding participation in the music community and performed with several different orchestras near and far, including the Shreveport Symphony Orchestra and e Longview Symphony Orchestra. Mr. Christopher has contributed graciously to the Beta Iota chapter by calling on us to hold receptions for various performances. From 1989 to 2004 he was Principal Cello of the Shreveport Symphony Orchestra, Shreveport Opera, and a member of the Premier String Quartet. Simultaneously, from 1993 to 1999 he also served as Adjunct Lecturer of Low Strings at Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas. As a member of the Nashville String Machine, Mr. Christopher has recorded with artists such as Faith Hill, Ricky Skaggs, Bruce Springsteen, and George Strait. In 2005 Mr. Christopher joined the string faculty at Northwestern State University of Louisiana in Natchitoches, where he serves as Associate Professor of Cello and Music eory. In the summers of 1993 to 2014 he performed as Assistant Principal Cello with the Peter Britt Festival Orchestra in Jacksonville, Oregon. His original articles have been published in American String Teacher, Bass World, e Jacques Offenbach Society Newsletter and Strings. Mr. Christopher has appeared as a soloist with orchestras, performed guest artist recitals and masterclasses, and presented at conferences throughout Louisiana, as well as, in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Indiana, Kansas, Nebraska, New Mexico, North Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Costa Rica, Honduras, Panamá, and South Korea. Dr. Joseph P. Ardovino Dr. Joseph P. Ardovino was initiated as a Friend of the Arts by the Mu Eta Chapter at the University of Montevallo in November. Dr. Ardovino is the Director of Bands and Professor of Music at the University of Montevallo where he has taught since 1991. Dr. Ardovino's responsibilities at the University include conducting the University Wind Ensemble, directing the University Jazz Ensemble and Trumpet Ensemble, teaching trumpet, conducting and serving as head of the instrumental area. Dr. Ardovino received a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in trumpet performance from the University of Alabama. He holds a Master of Music degree in trumpet performance from the College-Conservatory of Music, University of Cincinnati, and a Bachelor of Music degree in trumpet performance with teacher certification from the University of Alabama. His principle teachers included Eugene Blee, Marie Speziale, Alan Siebert, and Michael Johnson. He has studied conducting with Eugene Corporon, Terrance Milligan, Mallory ompson, and Gerald Welker. As a trumpet player, Dr. Ardovino is an active recitalist as well as a tenured member of the Tuscaloosa Symphony, and performs with the Alabama Symphony. Yearly, Dr. Ardovino conducts various district and county honor bands around the Southeast and was asked to conduct the Blue Band at Alabama All-State in 2009. He is sought aer as an adjudicator for many band and solo competitions as well. He also serves as coordinator and conductor for the annual UM Honor Band Festival and All- State trumpet clinic. Dr. Ardovino has twice received the College of Fine Arts Distinguished Teacher Award, in 2000 and 2010. Dr. Ardovino is a member of the International Trumpet Guild, Alabama Bandmasters Association, Alabama Music Educators Association, e National Association for Music Education, National Association of Wind and Percussion Instructors, and College Band Directors National Association. He is a Bach Artist/Clinician for the Conn-Selmer Corporation. Liz Augsburger Liz Augsburger was initiated as a Friend of the Arts by the Pi Chapter at Drake University in November. Ms. Augsburger is an Iowa native who began her career as an accompanist starting when she was twelve. In 2008, she began working as a staff accompanist for Drake University, collaborating with Drake students and faculty. She has enjoyed playing for student recitals, guest artist concerts, faculty recitals, masterclasses, and student juries. She previously served as an accompanist for the University of Northern Iowa Suzuki School String recitals. She has been a private piano instructor, wedding musician, and a church pianist for 30 years. She graduated Faith Baptist Bible College with a summa cum laude Bachelor's in Secondary English Education. Dr. Amanda Bono Dr. Amanda Bono was initiated as a Friend of the Arts by the Gamma Gamma Chapter at Shenandoah University in October. Dr. Bono is an active composer of works for the concert hall and stage, and her music is programmed throughout the United States and abroad. Based in the DC area, Amanda currently works in the U.S. Copyright Office at e Library of Congress; she also is a member of composition faculty at James Madison University. Amanda received her Doctorate in Music Composition from e Catholic University of America.
