Her writings have appeared in Flutists Quarterly, Flute Focus, and Flute Talk Magazine. She serves on the National Flute Association Pedagogy Committee and is the founder of and conductor for the Topeka Youth Flute Choirs. Michael Monk Mike Monk was initiated by the Epsilon Phi Chapter in April. He has been a custodian at the Northwest Missouri State University Fine Arts building for many years. He is an avid supporter of both the music and art students and makes it a priority to attend student recitals and concerts. Mike is there for the chapter, whether it is to open a locked door, search all over campus for bake sale tables, or offer a friendly smile and conversation during a stressful time. Dr. Mark Norman Dr. Mark Norman was initiated by the Theta Chapter in February. The Director of Bands and Assistant Professor of Music at Washburn University, Dr. Norman is an accomplished tuba performer, having served in the U.S. Navy Band. He also performs with the North Carolina Symphony, Richmond Symphony, and McLean Orchestra. He has directed ensembles selected to perform at the College Band Director's National Association Southwest Regional Conference; the Kansas, North Carolina, and Virginia State Music Educator Conferences; the Kennedy Center; and Lincoln Center. He attended the University of North Carolina at Greensboro where he completed his Bachelor's, Master's and Doctoral degrees in music. David W. Pass David W. Pass was initiated by the Fort Wayne Alumnae Chapter in March. He attended Indiana University–Purdue University Fort Wayne while studying privately with fellow Friend of the Arts Dr. James Ator. After obtaining his Master's in English and Linguistics, he concluded his studies with Dr. Ator with a four-movement Pass work called Holy Festivals for wind trio. He also composed a setting of Coleridge's Kubla Khan for Orchestra, a three-movement sinfonia for flute quartet He currently serves as Director of Music for the University of Missouri-Columbia. As the chief executive and academic officer, Shay now supervises numerous projects while residing over all members of the School of Music faculty and staff. Dr. Shay has also actively conducted and participated in the research of the English composer Henry Purcell. Collaborating with Robert Thompson, Shay helped co-author the first in-depth analysis of Purcell's compositions in the book, Purcell Manuscripts: The Principal Musical Sources. He has also written reviews and articles on Purcell, musicians, and other musicrelated topics. Not only has Dr. Shay bestowed a wealth of musical knowledge upon his students and colleagues, but he has also been a comrade to the sisters of SAI within the Iota Lambda chapter. and bass clarinet, a march for organ, and several liturgical songs for woodwind trio. He resumed a performance career, co-founded the Aspirare Trio, and performed and conducted at philharmonic concerts with the American Legion Band and the Fort Wayne Flute Choir. Since 2006, he has recorded concerts for the SAI chapters and the Eleganza Baroque Ensemble. Michael A. Reiber Michael A. Reiber was initiated by the Alpha Iota Chapter in January. He holds the title of Associate Professor of Music Education of the University of Oklahoma but contributes to a wide range of musical activities and organizations. He leads the New Horizons Band, organizes the honor bands, participates in the Collegiate National Association for Music Education and the Oklahoma Music Education Association, and has published many articles on music education. His research includes teacher reflection, teacher collaboration & integration, and practice-based education. Neil Van Wie Neil Van Wie was initiated by the Phoenix Alumnae Chapter in April. He studied string bass with David Cobb, a member of the Boston Symphony. While attending Union College, he was a member of the string bass section of the Albany Symphony Orchestra. He accepted the position of principal string bass of the Spokane Symphony Orchestra and their touring Chamber Orchestra, transferring to Eastern Washington University in Cheney, WA, where he had a full scholarship. A CPA and CFO of a construction company in Phoenix, Neil is the principal string bass of the newly formed Scottsdale Philharmonic orchestra and was formerly principal bassist of the Tempe Symphony. He is also a member of the Orpheus Male Chorus of Phoenix and conductor of a church choir in Peoria, AZ. David Louis Schreier Davis Louis Schreier was initiated by the Zeta Tau chapter in December. The Assistant Director Bands at the University of Central Florida, Schreier earned his Bachelor's in Music Education from the university in 2002 and his Master's with an emphasis in Conducting in 2010. Between degrees, he served at Florida's Osceola High School Schreier and returned to the university with a full graduate assistantship to work with athletic and concert bands. He has become a sought-after clinician, guest conductor, and adjudicator. He is a member of NAfMe and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, acting as founder, past president, and treasurer of the group's Central Florida Alumni Association. He also serves as faculty advisor for the university's Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia and the Zeta Tau Chapter of SAI. Dr. Robert Shay Dr. Robert Shay as initiated by the Iota Lambda Chapter in April. Dr. Shay has maintained prestigious positions throughout his career in music. After receiving his Doctorate in Musicology from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, he took a position working for the Longy School of Music as the Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of the Conservatory. Dr. Christian M. Zembower Dr. Christian M. Zembower was initiated by the Lambda Alpha Chapter in February. He is director of bands at East Tennessee State University. Along with directing both concert bands, he teaches several Zembower music courses. His passion for music and his dedication to his profession are clearly seen through his consistent efforts to recruit new members to the school ensembles.
