Annual Philanbthropies Awards S A I 2021 FALL 2021 23 C H A PT E R O U T R E AC H G R A N T S C H A PT E R O U T R E AC H G R A N T S For t Wayne Beta B, Region V In celebration of the chapter's 50th Anniversary, the Fort Wayne Alumnae Chapter was awarded $500 in support of their project to commission local female composer Diane Whitacre to compose a song for the Fort Wayne Children's Choir. This newly commissioned piece is to be performed both locally in the spring of 2022 and on the choir's tour of Japan in 2023. The students in the choir will be actively involved in the composition process, exposing them to the creative process and allowing them to collaborate with a female composer. Tampa Lambda D, Region VI The Tampa Alumnae Chapter joined forces with the Delta Chi Collegiate Chapter to purchase drumming equipment for Giunta Middle School, a Title 1/Achievement school with a population of Black and Hispanic students from low-income areas. The $500 grant used to purchase the equipment will allow band director Gabriel Travieso to create a Percussion Techniques class, thus helping the students to participate in parades, school functions, and elementary school outreach opportunities. Nor ther n New Jersey Phi A, Region VIII The full grant amount of $500 was awarded to this chapter for their efforts to help service and tune the organ at Grace United Methodist church, where the chapter regularly holds their meetings and musicales, as well as larger concerts which are open to the public. Their chapter sister, Ann Estill, serves as a musician in the church and is the liaison for the project. A well-tuned organ will re-connect its listeners to the power of music and provide many more years of delightful live organ performances. Jason Year y The 2021 Education Outreach Grant Committee awarded Jason Yeary and the Fayette County Public Schools the amount of $4,922.00 for the purchase of Orff Instruments. This award will provide more Orff Instruments for the students and require less sharing among students. Abby Br uce Unaffiliated Alumna Abby Bruce and Union High School were awarded the amount of $4,800.00 for the Union Band's Private Lesson program. The committee felt the project proposal was needed, especially due to learning loss from COVID closures. The students will receive more personalized instruction with this funding. Megan N. Levendosk y Unaffiliated Alumna The 2021 Education Outreach Grant Committee awarded Megan Levendosky and Central High Public School the amount of $4,435.32 for new marching band instruments. This award will provide marching band percussion instruments for student use throughout the year.
