sai-national.org • Fall 2021 41 KATHERINE CIESINSKI Katherine Ciesinski was initiated as a Member Laureate by the Sigma eta Chapter at the Eastman School of Music in April. e New York Times has called Katherine Ciesinski "a singer of rare communicative presence, and a musician of discrimination and intelligence." is accomplished American mezzo-soprano pursues a fully integrated career, exploring the world of today's composers as well as the established classics of the lyric stage. Ms. Ciesinski has appeared in stages across the world, her credits including the Metropolitan Opera, Covent Garden, Scottish Opera, San Francisco Opera, Paris Opera, and Houston Grand Opera, singing staple mezzo roles. She made her opera directing debut in 2007 with Handel's Flavio for the Moores Opera Center / Ars Lyrica Houston and returned to direct Britten's e Turn of the Screw the following season. Ms. Ciesinski has also performed with many of the world's leading orchestras and has been heard in recital halls across the United States and Europe. Katherine Ciesinski's opera recordings have received critical acclaim, including a Grammy nomination for her Paulina in e Queen of Spades with Seiji Ozawa and the Boston Symphony (BMG). She won a Grammy for her performance in Alban Berg's Lulu with the Houston Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Hans Graf. One of the few master performers to also become a master teacher, Ms. Ciesinski is a frequent clinician at the annual International Symposium on Care of the Professional Voice in Philadelphia, created the Vocal Workshop for the annual International Composition Seminar at the Royaumont Foundation in France, and lectured in and served on the steering committee for the University of Texas School of Public Health's Healthcare and the Arts Series. She is currently on faculty of the Artescénica Encuentro Operistico in Mexico and Opera Viva in Italy. Her recent students have achieved performing successes in Europe and the Americas. Other students are also active in a wide range of repertoire, from early music to world premieres. Formerly Professor of Music and Chair of Voice Studies at the Moores School of Music, University of Houston, she joined the faculty of the Eastman School of Music in August of 2008. At Eastman, Ms. Ciesinski is the chair of the Voice, Opera, and Vocal Coaching Department at Eastman, and maintains an active role as advisor in the school's SAI chapter, Sigma eta. She was first initiated in Sigma Alpha Iota as a collegiate member of Delta Mu Chapter at Temple University. DR. KIMBERLY SENA MOORE Dr. Kimberly Sena Moore was initiated as a Member Laureate by the Sigma Chi Chapter at the University of Miami in June. Dr. Moore received her Bachelor of Music degree in Music erapy from the University of Iowa, where she was initiated into SAI by the Zeta Epsilon Chapter, and then moved to San Diego, CA for six months for her clinical training internship at Musicworx of California. She earned her Masters of Music in Music erapy at Colorado State University in Ft. Collins, CO. Aer falling in love with the area, she started Neurosong Music erapy Services, a contractual agency providing music therapy services to hospitals, rehabilitation centers, and mental health treatment centers in northern Colorado. Aer a move during the summer of 2010 to Warrensburg, MO, she started a new position with the Certification Board for Music erapists (CBMT), enrolled in the Interdisciplinary Ph.D. program at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, and continued her music therapy related blogging (Music erapy Maven) and podcasting. Four years later, Dr. Moore moved to Miami, FL, where she is a teacher in the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami. In addition to education and clinical training, she is developing a research line exploring the impact of music-based interventions on emotion regulation development. Her clinical background includes work with children with a history of complex trauma as well as children, adults, and older adults who have health/ medical or neurorehabilitation needs. Current clinical and research interests center on music therapy and emotion regulation development in neurodevelopmentally at-risk children. She has presented extensively at regional, national, and international conferences and had research published in the Journal of Music erapy, Music erapy Perspective, Imagine, and Frontiers in Human Neuroscience; her work has been featured in several media outlets, including Psychology Today, Redbook, and CURE. Dr. Moore has served on the Board of the Colorado Association for Music erapy, on the Exam Committee for the Certification Board for Music erapists, and on the Colorado State Task Force promoting state recognition of the MT-BC credential. is latter role led to her current position as Regulatory Affairs Associate for CBMT, where she is involved in state-level advocacy, legislative, and policy issues that impact music therapy practice. JEANETTE THOMPSON Jeanette ompson was initiated as a Member Laureate by the Sigma Chi Chapter at the University of Miami in June. Jeanette ompson is a full time lecturer in Vocal Performance at the Frost School of Music. Her career has taken her all over the globe with recitals, orchestra concerts, and operatic performances in Belgium, Germany, France, Luxembourg, Turkey, Spain, Italy, Austria, Japan, Distinguished Members MEMBER LAUREATE an initiated member of the Fraternity who has achieved international distinction in the music profession
