KLENA N u Z e t a C h a p t e r , A l p h a A , R e g i o n V I I The outstanding advisor award for collegiate chapters is based on the candidate's level of participation, dedication, example, and support for the chapter as well as the Fraternity. In the words of the chapter, this year's advisor award recipient stands for everything Sigma Alpha Iota is founded on and demonstrates it to the chapter every day. Dr. Klena's main priority is the mental, emotional, and physical wellness of all her sisters and students. She is the biggest advocate for the chapter, promoting their projects and events in her classes and rehearsals, and sharing their successes with her colleagues. She was also an active participant in the chapter's recent colonization process. She, herself, trained the MITs, making games, slideshows, and pop quizzes to help them learn the material for their membership exam. She now actively participates in Nu Zeta chapter meetings, social, recruitment, fundraising, and service events. Her displays of respect and love for this fraternity have inspired the chapter members and given them an appreciation of the bond created by SAI. Outside of advising, Dr. Klena represents the highest ideals of a woman in music. She regularly gives clinics at local schools and works with music students of all ages. She has been elected as President-Elect for the Women Band Directors International organization and has appeared on several panels of women band directors. Without her guidance, the chapter claims they would not have achieved all they did over the past two years. Dr. Klena is a Visiting Assistant Professor of Music at Oakland University where she conducts the Oakland University Symphonic Band, teaches elementary and secondary instrumental music education methods courses, and supervises student teachers. Dr. Klena earned a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Lee University in Cleveland, TN where she was initiated into the Lambda Eta Chapter of SAI. She then earned a Master of Music degree from Central Michigan University and a Doctorate of Musical Arts degree from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Dr. Klena's primary research interest is gender diversity among wind band conductors, and she is committed to furthering inclusivity in the field.
