D ear Readers, As you can tell from above, I've been able to travel and explore a bit since the last PAN PIPES issue. You can read about my lovely visit with Mr. Sax on page 14, as I try to share just a snippet of Dinant, Belgium with you. I was also very fortunate to attend a wonderful performance of Tchaikovsky's ballet Lo Schiaccianoci (The Nutcracker) at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma over the holidays, to stop in at SAI National Headquarters in Asheville, NC, and to visit Salzburg, Austria at the end of January for its Mozart Festival. Stay tuned for a photo or two from that in the Spring issue, especially since I was able to meet up with one of our regular contributors, Jayne Hanlin! This Winter 2024 issue continues the long tradition of Sigma Alpha Iota's dedication to the American Composer with a number of related articles. I hope you enjoy reading about the music of the Sufragette's movement, different American genres of music, a few Native American music influences, and the work done by our SAI Alumnae and Distinguished Members. As we do each winter, we're also publishing the accompanying digital version of the Annual American Composers Update from the SAI Composers Bureau and its new Director, Krista Vázquez-Connelly. To celebrate the publication's 75th Diamond Anniversary, we've included some peeks into the past 75 years of publications and work by our prolific Composers Bureau members. As promised, we've included the search information for our next PAN PIPES Editor on page 3. And of course, there is always a need for more stories and articles for the publication itself.
