D ear Readers, It's spring! At least, that's what the calendar tells me. Here in Belgium, the rainy days continue, but I'm hopeful for some much cherished sunshine in the near future. As you can see from above, I was able to travel and enjoy a quick visit with our "World of Music" contributor, Jayne Hanlin (on left), while we were both attending January's Mozart Week in Salzburg, Austria. We celebrated Wolfgang A. Mozart's 268th birthday with a visit to his birthplace, a peek at his letters and music in the vault, and a concert by the Vienna Philharmonic. It was wonderful, and Jayne shares an account of two related Mozart trips in this issue. Speaking of spring and travel, can you hear the alphorn calling? It sounds just a bit different from our usual SAI whistle call, as you can tell from the cover. Enjoy learning about this unique instrument and those who love to play it. Then head over to page 20 for something completely different: Rebekah Strain's tale of attending a metalcore concert, interspersed with a history lesson on metal music. We also share stories from a number of Sigma Alpha Iota members who have traveled abroad or attended conferences, some with the assistance of an SAI Philanthropies, Inc. grant. And with this issue, there's just one more in the queue for me as Editor! There's still time to apply if you are interested — information is listed on the Opportunities page. But, of course, there's always a need for more stories and articles for future publications.
