Most often, he arranges and writes for his choirs. Machan earned a Master of Music Education from VanderCook College of Music and a Bachelor of Music Education from University of Wisconsin–Eau Claire. He is a member of the Wisconsin Choral Directors Association, Music Educators National Conference, the International Association of Jazz Educators, and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia. David Mattson David Mattson was initiated as a Friend of the Arts by the Orlando Alumnae Chapter in May. Mattson is an avid musician in the Washington, DC area, playing cello and singing with local community groups. In retirement, he joined the 180 Member Community Choir supported by the Bach Festival Society of Winter Park. He has served on the Choir Committee, where he earned a service year each year of his membership, and sings with the Chamber Choir. Mattson volunteers for the Rollins College Department of Music as the librarian and has built sets for several musical and opera productions. In recognition, the Department of Music presented him with its St. Cecilia award, given to those who have shown a profound love and support of music. He has also served the department as a house manager for music events that rent the John M. Tietke Concert Hall. He previously served in the Army, where he was recognized for his fine arts skills developing music and entertainment, and has had a modeling career on the side. At 91 years of age, he shows no signs of slowing down. Mattson earned a Bachelor of Arts in English with a minor in Music and Fine Arts from Oberlin College and attended the Yale School of Drama. Matthew Pate Matthew Pate was initiated as a Friend of the Arts by the Houston Alumnae Chapter in May. Pate is an applications engineer, specializing in electrical engineering at Texas Instruments. He is a French horn player and married to Christine Hall, former National Vice President of Fraternity Development. He serves on the Elkins Band Booster Club as resident handyman and truck driver, and also helps students hit their drill marks and occasionally plays mellophone at football games. He was recently named Best Band Dad by the students. Pate earned a Bachelor of Science from Murray State University, where he was initiated into the Gamma Delta Chapter of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.
