2 Summer 2026 • sai-national.org D ear Members of Sigma Alpha Iota, We've made it to the end of the first year of the triennium. It's hard to believe that just a year ago we were gathered in Minneapolis celebrating our 51st National Convention. For those who have attended an SAI National Convention, what was your favorite moment? Every convention has unique experiences that make it memorable. For me, however, my favorite part remains remarkably consistent from convention to convention. It's the time spent lingering near the registration table, greeting familiar faces and meeting new ones. We come from different parts of the country and different walks of life, yet we gather for a common purpose: to celebrate our love of music. In those moments, titles and offices fade into the background. We are simply musicians, sisters, and friends brought together by our beloved Fraternity. Those connections and conversations are what sustain me throughout the triennium until we have the opportunity to gather again. With that in mind, it's never too early to begin planning for your next—or perhaps your first—National Convention experience. Mark your calendars, start setting aside funds, and save your PTO now for our 52nd National Convention in Phoenix, Arizona, July 13–17, 2028. Together, we will celebrate not only another incredible Convention, but also the 125th anniversary of Sigma Alpha Iota—a milestone that promises to make this gathering one for the history books. As I reflect on those Convention moments, I am reminded that they embody the spirit of this year's theme, Harmony Within. The harmony we create in SAI extends far beyond the music we perform. It is found in the friendships we nurture, the support we offer one another, and the sense of belonging that connects generations of members. Whether we gather in a convention hall, a chapter meeting, or a casual conversation near a registration table, those moments strengthen the bonds that unite us and remind us why SAI continues to hold such a special place in our hearts. That same spirit of connection, service, and shared purpose is woven throughout the pages of this issue. As you explore this summer issue of PAN PIPES, you'll find stories that celebrate the many ways our members continue to shape the musical world while honoring the legacy of those who came before us. We revisit memorable moments from the 2025 National Convention, celebrate the achievements of distinguished musicians and scholars, and spotlight members whose dedication has strengthened SAI across generations. You'll read about the lasting impact of SAI Philanthropies, Inc. grants, efforts to preserve our National Headquarters, and inspiring examples of sisters using music, leadership, and service to enrich their communities. From reflections on music history and cultural preservation to stories of lifelong friendship and commitment, each article reminds us that the harmony we create together extends far beyond any single chapter, convention, or performance. As summer unfolds, I wish each of you time for rest, renewal, and connection. Many of you may be looking forward to a planned vacation, family gathering, or cherished tradition. I am especially looking forward to a monthly dinner gathering that brings together several generations of SAIs. We come together to share updates about our lives, support one another through challenges and celebrations, enjoy musical performances, and, of course, share plenty of comfort food. It is the kind of friendship and community that would not exist without our Fraternity connection. Experiences like these remind me that the true strength of SAI is found not only in our shared love of music, but in the relationships we build and sustain throughout our lives. May you find your own moments of harmony this summer, wherever the season takes you. Members who prefer to keep receiving a mailed copy should simply complete and return the card or respond through the digital option also provided. If a response is not received by August 31, 2026, the member's subscription will automatically transition to the digital edition of PAN PIPES for the Fall 2026 issue. is change is part of a thoughtful effort to be mindful of rising postage and printing costs and to help steward the resources of the Foundation responsibly. Currently, the combined costs of publication, printing, and postage for PAN PIPES total nearly $250,000 per triennium. at said, if you prefer receiving a printed copy, we absolutely encourage you to respond. We are happy to continue providing a mailed journal for members who value the print edition and want to keep it arriving in their mailbox. ank you for helping us continue to share the stories and accomplishments of our Fraternity and members, while caring responsibly for the resources that support our mission.
