She is pursuing a double major in Music Business and Vocal Performance, along with a minor in Business Administration. Emily served in the National Symphony Orchestra's Education Department, assisting with the 2012 Summer Music Institute. Her duties included preparing scores for each of the SMI's 57 participants and coordinating their schedules, which included orchestra and chamber music rehearsals and individual lessons with members of the NSO, as well as coordinating transportation to and from offsite activities. Emily's interest in Arts Management came about through an "Introduction to Music Business" course the first semester of her freshman year. Her assignments included interviewing and later job-shadowing at a local performing arts center, an experience she enjoyed so much that she later job shadowed twice at Lyric Opera of Chicago. A talk by a performer inspired her to continue her vocal studies as well by adding a double major in vocal performance at the end of her freshman year. Her career goal is to work in Arts Administration in positions which will allow her to interact with both visiting artists and the surrounding community. Emily joined Lambda Mu chapter during the second semester of her freshman year, where she describes meeting "a group of kind and talented women from whom I draw inspiration daily." She serves on her chapter's Program and Social committees and as a pianist during her chapter's initiation ceremonies. In addition to her SAI activities, she serves as the Director of Marketing for her campus' Music Business Organization and as a volunteer usher at the Bloomington Center for the Performing Arts. Of her internship experience this past summer, Emily says, "I couldn't get enough of the Kennedy Center - I was there all of the time! Whether I was seeing a performance or working with students through my internship with the National Symphony, I was learning about the passion, music, and arts management simultaneously. My experience in Washington, D.C. was invaluable; I discovered things about myself both professionally and personally. Thank you, Sigma Alpha Iota." sai-national.org FALL 2012 PAN PIPES 13 74 SIGM PH A I O T 19 P P 74 SIGM 19 RO IOTA IOTA HA LP 7 D r.
