She graduated from Oklahoma State University in 2010 with a Bachelor's of Music in Music Education. During her time there, she enjoyed performing with many different ensembles, teaching students in her private clarinet studio, and being involved in the Iota Alpha chapter of Sigma Alpha Iota. While in the Iota Alpha chapter, she served in several offices, including President, and received the Sword of Honor and Ruby Sword. The ladies in the Iota Alpha chapter always upheld the highest standards of the fraternity and were amazing musicians and friends. After graduation, Abby began work as the high school band director at Western Heights High School, a 5A high school in Oklahoma City with an amazing and supportive staff. Over the past two years, the band has received much recognition, including several all-state and honor band students and the Sweepstakes Award in April 2012. She is also attending the University of Oklahoma and working toward her Masters in Music Education with an emphasis in instrumental conducting. Abby Bruce is delighted to receive this scholarship in order to continue her education at this wonderful institution. She hopes that her combined higher education and teaching experience will mold her into a teacher who inspires a love for in her students.
