Editor's Notes W Dear Readers, inter is upon us! Snow is falling, and many of you have been performing holiday concerts over the last few months. As spring approaches, and you begin putting together your next program, please consider performing music from one or more of the American composers featured in this issue of Pan Pipes. For the last sixty-five years, Pan Pipes has published an update about composers in the SAI Composers Bureau, which is a group of living composers who have achieved national or international recognition in concert music. They have either had compositions published by a recognized national publisher or recording company, had compositions performed by professional musicians in a nationally known professional concert venue, or compositions performed by professional musicians on national radio or television. The Composers Update features current works by these individuals, and provides a glimpse into contemporary American music as it is being written and performed today. Do you know a composer who meets these qualifications? If so, invite them to submit a membership application to the Composers Bureau Director, Dr. Susan Cohn Lackman at slackman@rollins. edu. Information about submission requirements can be found on the SAI national website at sai-national.org. Composers admitted to the Composers Bureau have the opportunity to be listed in the winter issue of Pan Pipes, plus be included in the online searchable database located on the SAI national website. There is no charge for membership. In this issue, read about how the People-to-People project is assisting SAI sisters in Tanzania. It's heartwarming to hear how SAI Philanthropies, Inc. is able to help people around the globe with making music through this amazing project. We also have an article written by Composers Bureau member Hollis Thoms entitled, "Woodrow Wilson and the Apocalypse: A Musical Mystery." It's an intriguing account about our 28th President of the United States, a dramatic oratorio entitled "The Apocalypse," and questions surrounding the connection between the two. In addition, there is an update about Afro-Blue, the musical group competing on "The Sing-Off." The competition has concluded, so how did our SAI sisters in the group fare? Finally, I have a new e-mail address! To contact me directly for story submissions, questions, or just to pass along praise for Pan Pipes, I can be reached at panpipeseditor@gmail.com. I'm looking forward to hearing from you. Happy reading and stay warm! Heather Davis, Editor Join the post-Convention trip to Asheville, NC. See sai-national.org for details.
