WEBSITE: alexshapiro.org MARILYN SHRUDE • NEWS: Marilyn Shrude was named a 2011 Guggenheim fellow. The 2011 Sorel Medallion in Choral Composition was awarded to three composers, including Marilyn Shrude. She was the featured composer for the Women in Music Series at Wittenberg University (Oct. 2011). Shrude and musicians John Sampen, Richard York and Jessica McCormack, who organized the entire residency, presented a concert of eight of her compositions. Marilyn Shrude's Lacrimosa was included in the concert repertoire of Duo Solaris (Joel Diegert, alto saxophone, and Mariam Vardzelashvili, piano), who competed in the International Gaudeamus Interpreters Competition April 2011 in Amsterdam. The duo received 3rd Prize in the competition.
