distinguished members ASSOCIATES continued from page 25 He received the Indiana State University College of Arts and Sciences Education Excellence Award in 2000 and was nominated twice for the Distinguished Teaching Award at Northwestern University. His publications and paper presentations reflect a variety of research areas: Renaissance music (Obrecht, polyphonic borrowing techniques, chant), opera (Cavalli, Monteverdi, Humperdinck), French Baroque dance, and American popular music. He authored a dissertation entitled Chanson to Mass: Polyphonic Borrowing Procedures in Italian and Austro- Italian Sources, c.1460-c.1480. Recent scholarly activities include "The Eternal Return (2002): A Multimedia Collage by Matt Marello," an article entitled "Popular Music at the Crossroads: Terre Haute, Indiana, before the 1930s" in the Proceedings of the 2nd International Conference of the Cyprus Musicological Society, and the article "Developing Faculty on the Tenure-Track" in Proceedings of the National Association of Schools of Music. He devotes considerable attention toward bridging the communication gap between scholars and the listening public. Dr. Sullivan is an internationally published program annotator, having contributed articles to major organizations in the United States such as Ravinia Festival, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Lincoln Center, Boston Early Music Festival, Music of the Baroque, etc. Annually, he authors several hundred annotations, liner notes, and educational/outreach materials. Additionally, he has remained active as an early-music performer in voice and wind instruments, choral conductor, and church musician. He holds a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education from Denison University and a Master's Degree in Music History and Literature and a Doctorate in Musicology from Northwestern University. friend of the arts Dr. Larry Arnn Dr. Larry Arnn was initiated by the Sigma Mu Chapter in April. He is the twelfth president of Hillsdale College and is a professor of politics and history. He is a constant supporter of Sigma Mu's annual Valentine's fundraiser and of the school's chamber choir, organizing performances on campus and abroad. He received his Bachelor's Degree from Arkansas State University, graduating with the highest distinction. He received his Master's Degree and Doctorate in Government from the Claremont Graduate School. He studied in England, first as a research student in International History at the London School of Economics and then in Modern History at Worcester College, Oxford University. He returned to the United States and served as president of California's Claremont Institute and the founding chairman of the California Civil Rights Initiative. He is on the board of directors of The Heritage Foundation, the Henry Salvatori Center of Claremont McKenna College, and The Claremont Institute.  He served on the U.S. Army War College Board of Visitors for two years, for which he earned the Department of the Army's Outstanding Civilian Service Medal. He is a member of the American Political Science Association, the Mont Pelerin Society, the International Churchill Society, and the Philanthropy Roundtable.  Aaron T. Baier Aaron T. Baier was initiated by the Syracuse Alumnae Chapter in June. Baier is the Youth 26 Transition / Work Readiness Coordinator at Access to Independence of Cortland County, Inc., where he works as a disability advocate. He is President of the National Youth Leadership Network, Chair of New York State's YOUTH POWER!, and Vice-Chair of the New York State Commission for the Blind and Visually Handicapped State Rehabilitation Council. Locally, he started Youth in Power and many other community activities. Baier earned his Bachelor's Degree in Psychology at State University of New York-Cortland. After trying his hand at baritone horn, he took up the guitar and enjoys performing often with his wife, Gamma Delta initiate and Syracuse Alumnae Chapter member Maria Mucaria, and fellow musicians. Maria Benotti Maria Benotti was initiated by the Boston Alumnae Chapter in June. A violinist, Benotti is the founder and artistic director of Music at Eden's Edge, a resident chamber ensemble serving Boston's North Shore since 1982. She teaches violin, chamber music, and sonata duo class at the New England Conservatory Preparatory School having joined the faculty in 1977. She previously taught string pedagogy in the New England Conservatory School for Continuing Education and served as a competition judge for the New England Conservatory of Music, Boston Guitarfest, Tufts University, and the Longy School of Music in Cambridge, MA. She performs regularly on baroque and classical violin with the Handel & Haydn PAN PIPES SUMMER 2011 sai-national.org Society Orchestra. She is a founding member of the Pro Arte Chamber Orchestra of Boston and has served as concertmaster and chamber performer throughout New England. She earned a Bachelor's Degree magnum cum laude in Music From Oberlin College and her Master's Degrees in Violin Performance from both the Catholic University of America and New England Conservatory of Music. She also previously taught at Northeastern University, Gordon College, and Wheaton College. Stephen Casai Stephen Casai was initiated by the Sigma Mu Chapter in April. An integral component of Hillsdale College's Saga food service and a recognized campus fixture, Casai is an enthusiastic supporter of the Sigma Mu Chapter events and the collegiate arts community in general. He happily adjusts the schedules of student employees to allow them the opportunity to participate in arts events. He oversees the pianists who perform for Sunday brunches and maintains this weekly campus tradition of live performance. His oversight includes encouraging diners to sing along with the music and inquiring about song choices to the performers. His support remains unflagging even in Michigan's harsh winters; Casai does not own a car yet attends every campus musical event, a gesture admired and appreciated by performers and fellow attendees. Dr. Andrea Dismukes Dr. Andrea Dismukes was initiated by the Lambda Eta Chapter in October 2010. She currently teaches Diction for voice majors (English, Italian, German, French), maintains a sizable private voice studio, and continues to pursue performance and ministry opportunities
