The center provides a wide variety of support for people of all age groups with any type of disability. The project began with a chapter performance at the center to introduce the Fraternity, and get acquainted with the residents, facility, and staff. Natalie then provided training sessions for the chapter to prepare them to help and facilitate therapy goals, and coordinated with Elisa Witt, the facility Activities Director, to plan the first Music Therapy session. On Sunday, May 19, 2013 five of the sisters lead the first session. This session was centered around a Spring theme and focused on goals of increased social interaction, improved mood, and engaging motor skills. Natalie lead the therapy session and NDEA sisters provided facilitation and support of therapy through singing, conversation, positive eye contact, hand-over-hand manipulation of instruments, and positive sensory experience. Jeanmarie Braddock also provided a solo violin piece for relaxation and imagery. Residents engaged in singing, playing rhythm instruments, laughter, discussion, and telling jokes. All of the initial music therapy goals were met for their first session and both residents and sisters had a blast!
