saI-natIOnal.ORg sPRIng 2014 PAN PIPES 9 O ne of the great pleasures in my professional career is serving as Director of the SAI Philanthropies People-to- People Project. I have met so many extraordinary women who commit time, resources, and most importantly their support to fulfilling the needs of the project. ese sisters understand the importance of bringing music to students of all ages, in all corners of the world. ey hold fundraisers and instrument drives, make monetary donations to SAI Philanthropies, Inc. for the People-to-People Project, and acquire instruments that are sent where they are needed the most. anks to the commitment of these sisters, the SAI People-to-People Project has continued to assist our colleagues and expanded the scope of the project by assisting new organizations world-wide. I am proud to share with you that the P2P Project continues to send material assistance to seven organizations worldwide. At the same time, the project has expanded, and now assists an additional four organizations in Canada, Uganda, and the United States. Haiti e SAI P2P project continues to send material assistance to our colleagues at the Ebenezer Glenn Orphanage in Dessalines, the Sister Cities Essex-Haiti Music Project in Dessachapelles, and the Fanfare Band organized near the Partners in Health Medical clinic in Cange. Since Ebenezer Glenn is now working cooperatively with an international shipping company in Florida, all materials that are sent to the orphanage are shipped directly to the warehousing location on the Florida east coast, carefully packed on container ships, and delivered directly to Don and Doris Peavey, founders of the orphanage. is year the P2P Project was able to send 17 soprano recorders and two electric keyboards, items at the top of the orphanage's wish list. ese instruments have already made a profound impact on the musical education of the children and the lives of the members of the community. e P2P Project has also been able to send many instruments to Abner Achoule (director of the Fanfare Band in Deshapelles) this past year including two congas, a djembe, two electric keyboards, two trumpets, two clarinets, two flutes and a set of marching cymbals. ese donations were made possible thanks to the work of the Melbourne/Vero Beach Alumnae chapter, Delta Chi MITs at the University of South Florida, and money from the Haiti Redevelopment Fund. ere are now seventeen students, ranging in age from seven years old to mid-twenties, who are taking instrument lessons saI phIlanthropIes, Inc.
