sai-national.org • FALL 2016 • PAN PIPES 3 Dear Readers, I spent a short, yet full weekend at SAI National Headquarters this summer to work on the focus of this year's upcoming issues. In between format and content discussions, I had the opportunity to look through our historical collection of PAN PIPES. What a treasure trove of information and history! As we are celebrating the 100th Anniversary of Pan's Cottage at the MacDowell Colony, I had a particular interest in the stories and updates from the fraternity's involvement there. We will be sharing some of those stories in each issue this year, and I hope you enjoy the trip back in time as much as I have. is particular issue celebrates the achievements of women in music—leaders in their respective fields—with interviews, memorials, history lessons, and annual award announcements. Each piece has something different to offer, whether it be an understanding of how far school bands have come to what it takes to become a performing artist or to plan an opera company's season. We also remember two giants in the music industry—Marni Nixon and Patrice Munsel—for their contributions and passion. I hope you come away with a few new thoughts, ideas, or inspirations. What have you or someone you know been up to lately? We welcome new music related stories to share with our readers and new volunteers to write them. Do you have an idea for an article or an interview with a musician? Is there a great, new teaching resource or a lecture topic that you would like to write about? If so, please contact me at SAIPanPipesEditor@gmail.com so we can discuss your potential involvement. I can't wait to hear from you!
