Laquita Mitchell performs as Bess in the San
Francisco Opera's 2009 production of Porgy and
Bess. The 1935 musical was written by George
and Ira Gershwin and DuBose Heyward, based on
Heyward's 1925 novel Porgy, written in SAI's Pan's
Cottage at the MacDowell Colony. Read about SAI's
