PAN PIPES • FALL 2017 • sai-national.org 26 SAI AWARDS 2017 FR ATERNIT Y NATIONAL ALUMNAE LE ADERSHIP AWARD K A T H I B O W E R P E T E R S O N S a n D i e g o A l u m n a e , D e l t a C , R e g i o n I T his year's recipient of the National Alumnae Leadership Award is Kathi Bower Peterson, from the San Diego County Alumnae Chapter, Delta C Province, Region I. Kathi, is a long-time and dedicated member of SAI. A 1984 initiate of Epsilon Eta, she has been an active member of the San Diego County Alumnae Chapter since 1993. She has served on the executive board as president and VP-programs, and she is currently the chapter treasurer. Kathi has received the Sword of Honor, Rose of Honor, Rose of Dedication, and Diamond Sword of Honor. Nationally, she has served the fraternity as Delta C Province Officer and SAI Philanthropies Director of Undergraduate Scholarships. She is currently the Coordinator of Scholarships for SAI Philanthropies. Kathi also writes articles for Pan Pipes, the most recent of which, "Two American Composers," was published in the Winter, 2017 issue. A librarian by profession, Kathi is a freelance oboist who plays throughout the San Diego area. She performs regularly with her church band and choir, as well as with the San Diego Festival Chorus. She is a regular performer at chapter musicales and Province Days. On those days when she's not working, Kathi volunteers at her son's school library, enjoys books, chocolate, art, and comics. Her chapter wrote, "we cannot overstate the asset Kathi is to our chapter, as we oen rely on her knowledge and expertise. She always presents herself with professionalism and friendliness, and is an excellent representative of SAI throughout all parts of her life. We are proud of Kathi's involvement with SAI at all levels." An initiate of the Sigma Delta Chapter at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, she is currently serving as Treasurer for Evanston Alumnae — a position she has held for over 15 years. She has served in varying chapter offices, attended multiple conventions and state days, supported chapter installations, and performed with and conducted chapter ensembles. Jackie taught band in the Niles School District for 34 years, was a private flute teacher for many years, and has been a member and assistant conductor of the Wilmette Community Band. A member of SAI for over 50 years, she has received the Sword of Honor, Rose of Honor, Rose of Dedication, and Rose of Constancy. M ichelle Schultz Woods from the Boston Alumnae Chapter in Phi B Province is a Regional Leadership Award recipient for 2017. Initiated by Eta Mu at the University of Hartford, Michelle has served in multiple officer positions, including chapter president and vice president membership of her alumnae chapter. She has also served as chair of the website, newsletter, collegiate liaison, and scholarship committees. Her efforts while in office led to increased chapter membership, more participation, and a successful fundraising gala for chapter scholarships. Michelle is passionate about her involvement in Samaratins - a suicide prevention and intervention organization.
