Grade- school aged children from Winona, MN area schools were invited to come to Saint Mary's University for a day where the chapter members taught them about music. During the day, children were divided into groups and taught various aspects of music such as scales, note values, and rhythms by sisters in the chapter and other volunteers. Sisters then taught the children a song that they could perform for their parents at the end of the day. is event gave children in the community an opportunity to learn about multiple aspects of music, such as instruments, different types of music, and performance. C a t e g o r y I I ( 2 1 - 3 5 m e m b e r s ) S I G M A G A M M A U n i v e r s i t y o f T u l s a , Z e t a A P r o v i n c e , R e g i o n I I M embers of the Sigma Gamma Chapter volunteered their time and raised money to purchase a new set of Orff instruments for the students at Lindbergh Elementary School in Tulsa, OK. e chapter won e University of Tulsa's homecoming competition and donated $1,000 of the prize money to the local elementary school. Sisters also volunteered in the music classroom at the school helping with fundamentals, concert preparation, and classroom management. In addition, the chapter hosted a dinner to raise more funds to be able to provide the classroom with a full set of instruments. e sisters planned, set up, and served dinner while providing musical entertainment during the meal. Overall the chapter raised $965 during the dinner for a total donation of $1,965 to go towards purchasing a full set of Orff instruments for Lindbergh Elementary School. C a t e g o r y I I I ( 3 6 + m e m b e r s ) A L P H A M U C a r n e g i e M e l l o n U n i v e r s i t y , C h i B P r o v i n c e , R e g i o n V I I I I n honor of Black History Month, Alpha Mu hosted "Jazz Café; a celebration of women in Jazz". e event was two hours long and featured performances by Carnegie Mellon University's Jazz Orchestra, Jazz Choir, music students, chapter members, and members of the Alumni eater Company. All proceeds from the event, $851, went to the Alumni eater Company, a non-profit organization that not only allows inner- city youth in the Pittsburgh area to create their own performance art, but also provides a safe space for students to perform. Chapter members cooked, served food, advertised, set up, and planned different aspects of the event.
