PAN PIPES • SPRING 2018 • sai-national.org 20 O ver this past triennium, SAI Philanthropies, Inc. has celebrated 100 years of the building of Pan's Cottage at the MacDowell Colony through a special campaign to raise $100,000 for its renovation. Over 85% of the campaign goal has been raised through donations from generous individuals and chapters, but there is still support needed so the goal can be met by Convention. To help achieve this, SAI Philanthropies invites chapters to participate in its Silver Tea Challenge. The idea of a Silver Tea Challenge was first presented in 1939 by the Iota Delta Chapter as a challenge to SAI's then 67 active chapters to raise money for the upkeep of Pan's Cottage. The events included entertainment for music lovers and friends in the form of a musicale, refreshments were served, and donations were collected. The idea was so popular with the sisterhood that it continued on for several years. In the spirit of Pan's Cottage, SAI Philanthropies, Inc. is reaching back nearly 80 years into the past and challenging chapters to hold their own Silver Tea — but with a twist! Let's go back further to 1918, a time of lace gloves and velvet hats and gracious living. Turn your tea into a celebration of the year Pan's Cottage was built! Every chapter sister attending — or unable to attend — will make a donation of $19.18. Your chapter will then make one collective donation to SAI Philanthropies. Simple! Make the afternoon extra fun by voting on who is wearing the best period hat, the funniest hat, or the most elegant hat. And take lots of photos to share with SAI Philanthropies, Inc. for Facebook! — Heidi Frankson, SAI Philanthropies, Inc.
