Our projects have included furthering musical education internationally and locally. Below are some examples of the wonderful projects our sisterhood has accomplished. Midland Alumnae Chapter e Midland Alumnae Chapter has continued their successful project entitled GBMIR, Great Bay Musical Instrument Recovery. For several years, the Midland Alumnae Chapter project, headed up by Wendy Hohmeyer, has acquired, refurbished, and relocated countless instruments to music programs around the globe. Locations have included Ecuador, Haiti, India, Canada, Florida, Louisiana, Arizona, and Midland area schools.ey have taken in a variety of instruments including violins, violas, cellos, flutes, piccolos, song flutes, french horns, and many more. Sarasota/Manatee Alumnae rough the direction of chapter president Carole Luzio their chapter was able to acquire and relocate nine electric Yamaha five octave keyboards to their local district, the Manatee County Schools. Pendleton Juvenile Correctional Facility SAI sister Leanna Smith is a music teacher building a program to enhance the lives of the inmates at the Pendleton Juvenile Correctional Facility in Indiana. anks to generous donations from members and chapters, People-to-People was able to provide Leanna with Boomwhackers, a CD player, small percussion instruments, and an autoharp. In addition to the People-to-People's contributions, the Macie Publishing Company has also taken an interest in the project, offering permanent access to their interactive class method materials free of charge and providing forty-five recorders and books. Sister Cities Essex-Haiti e People-to-People project continues its partnership with the Sister Cities Essex-Haiti that it has had for many years. As for a background on the Sister Cities Essex-Haiti, "Shortly aer the devastating January 2010 earthquake in Haiti, residents of Essex with the support of the Town Selectmen decided to reach out and help the people of Deschapelles, Haiti. Many residents in the Essex area had previously travelled to Deschapelles at the invitation of Jenifer Grant, the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Larry and Gwen Mellon who founded Hospital Albert Schweitzer (HAS) in 1956 in rural Deschapelles. Contact was made with ODES (Organization for Economic and Social Development), a volunteer organization of residents of Deschapelles.
