During his undergraduate career, Mr. Rowland was a member of the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Band, the Georgia Southern University Wind Ensemble, and the Georgia Southern University "Southern Pride" Marching Band. He served as Lead Trumpet player for the Jazz Ensemble and the Principal Trumpet for the Georgia Southern-Statesboro Symphony Orchestra. Under Rowland's leadership, the Tri-Cities Band Program has grown from 45 members to 185. e Wind Ensemble (performing level VI music), the Symphonic Band (level IV/V), and the Concert Band (performing level II/III), along with the Marching and Jazz Bands consistently earn superior ratings at all adjudicated events. His bands have performed in Disney World's Magic Music Days, the 2009 Historically Black College & University Band Directors Consortium, the Atlanta Jazz Festival, Southern Star Invitational Southwest Airlines, Delta Airlines, and for MTV's Boost Mobile Rock Corps Concert. e Wind Ensemble was invited to perform at the Lincoln Center for Performing Arts and to participate in the Pre-Olympic Ceremonies in Beijing, China for the 2008 Olympics. In 2012 and 2018, Rowland was selected as one of Fulton County's Star Teachers. Most recently, Mr. Rowland was selected as a Quarter Finalist for the first GRAMMY Music Educators Award, and, in 2014, he received the Georgia Musical eater Shuler Award for best Orchestra. He currently serves as the Fulton County School System Fine Arts Support Teacher for Band and the Southern Division chair for the William P. Foster Project sponsored by the National Band Association (NBA). His professional affiliations include the Georgia Music Educators Association, National Band Association, National Association for Music Educators, Jazz Educators Network, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Music Fraternity, the International Trumpeters Guild, and Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated. He resides in Atlanta, Georgia with his wife Alva, who is an operatic performer and elementary music specialist, and their three children. D R . J U L I E S T U R M Dr. Julie Sturm was initiated as a National Arts Associate by the Sigma Lambda Chapter at Iowa State University in January. Dr. Sturm joined the Iowa State music faculty in 2010 and is currently a Lecturer in Music for Composition & eory. Dr. Sturm is a Fulbright Scholar who studied German Harmonielehre, which are instructional texts about music theory. She holds degrees in Cello Performance from the San Francisco Conservatory and Indiana University and received her PhD in Music eory from the University of Arizona. As a performer, Dr. Sturm has international experience including concertos, recitals, and orchestral performances. Among her many performance credentials, she has worked with the Munich Philharmonic, has toured Israel, Germany, and the Canary Islands with Orchester der Nationen, has been the soloist for Dvoraks cello concerto in Taejon, South Korea, and appeared as a recitalist in Mexico City, Berlin, Munich, Passau, Los Angeles, and Boston, as well as recent appearances throughout Iowa. Since 1998, Dr. Sturm has held the position of principal cello of the Des Moines Symphony. At that time, she also held professorships at Drake University and Grinnell College, where she taught cello, chamber music, and music theory. Prior to moving to Iowa, Dr. Sturm served as director of the chamber music and theory programs at e Walnut Hill School for the Arts in Natick, MA. She holds memberships in the College Music Society and Germanys Tonkünstlerverband Bayern. Jonathon Bellomy Jr. Jonathon Bellomy Jr. was initiated as a Friend of the Arts by the Gamma Zeta Chapter at Old Dominion University in April 2017. Bellomy Jr. is a singer, songwriter, and vocal coach with over 25 years experience in music. He is a trained vocalist, as well as a self-taught pianist, and guitarist. He is experienced with song writing, arranging, and advising proper vocal techniques to vocalist in recording sessions, collaborating with sound engineers on mixing and correcting vocals on pre-recorded tracks. In 2000, he signed with Atlantic Records, and in 2011, signed with Bungalo/Universal Records, and has appeared on MTV's Making e Band, FOX's American Idol, and NBC's e Voice. Gary Bernice Gary Bernice was initiated as a Friend of the Arts by the Lambda Phi Chapter at University of Massachusetts, Amherst in March. Bernice is the director of Springfield's High School of Science and Technology Concert Band, Jazz Band, Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, and Stomp Percussion Ensemble. As co-founder and co-director of Springfield's Mentoring rough Music Program (MTM) and Peer-2-Peer Mentoring Program (P2P), he also coaches chamber ensembles and teaches group and individual music lessons aer school. Bernice holds a Bachelor's in Music Education summa cum laude and a Master's in Music Education from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. In 2006, he completed an honors thesis through the Commonwealth Honors College at the University of Massachusetts titled Students' Beliefs About Relevant Curriculum in the Secondary Urban Music Classroom.
