PAN PIPES • SPRING 2018 • sai-national.org 36 Alyssa Menes Alyssa Menes was initiated as a Friend of the Arts by the New York Alumnae Chapter in February. Composer, professor, conductor – these are a few of the many reasons the New York Alumnae Chapter is proud to initiate Alyssa Menes as Friend of the Arts. With a degree in music composition, she works as a game composer in New York City and New Jersey. In 2013, she began arranging full-orchestra pieces for gamer symphony orchestras, a collaboration that inspired more. Two years later, she founded her own orchestra in New Jersey. She is president, conductor, and music director for the Montclair Gamer Symphony Orchestra, which performs at gaming conventions and supports local businesses. She studied Music eory and Composition at Montclair State University's John J. Cali School of Music, where she earned her Bachelor's degree. Alyssa is an adjunct professor at Bloomfield College, teaching sound design for visual media and advanced synthesis. She also regularly attends gaming conferences and conducts seminars in game audio along the east coast. Dr. John Scott Dr. John Scott was initiated as a Friend of the Arts by the Iota eta Chapter at the University of North Texas in March. A clarinet professor at the University of North Texas College of Music, Dr. Scott is an acclaimed clarinetist and music educator, having performed and taught around the world. He previously served as Associate Professor of Fine Arts at Augusta State University, Instructor of Music at Susquehanna University, and Associate Instructor in clarinet at Indiana University. Dr. Scott has performed as a soloist at numerous recitals and festivals. He is also a renowned clinician, having taught ensembles in the United States and abroad. He earned his Bachelor's in Music Education from Frostburg State University and his Master's and Doctorate in Woodwind Performance and Music Literature from Indiana University. He is a member of the Texas Music Educators Association, International Clarinet Association, and Pi Kappa Lambda. Tracy Wannamaker Tracy Wanamaker was initiated as a Friend of the Arts by the Gamma Delta Chapter at State University of New York at Potsdam at the Crane School of Music in March. Wanamaker is an instructor at the Crane School of Music where she is the coordinator of the Music in Special Education Program. She is a board–certified music therapist with over twenty years of experience in multiple areas including special education and adults with developmental disabilities. She earned her Bachelor's in Music erapy magna cum laude at Shenandoah University and her Master's in Special Education with Distinction from SUNY Potsdam. Additionally, she is an active guest music therapy supervisor for the Jamaican Field Service Project, providing her services in Schools of Hope. Wanamaker is an active consultant and clinician and has presented research at many local, state, and national conferences. DISTINGUISHED MEMBERS Menes Scott Wannamaker 2019 Claude T. Smith Memorial Band Composition Contest The Lambda Chapter of Phi Beta Mu established a triennial composition contest in 1982 under the leadership of the well-known composer Claude T. Smith. The continuing purpose of the contest is to encourage young composers to write music for concert band at the grade III-IV level with standard instrumentation. The winner receives $5,000 and expenses to attend the Phi Beta Mu annual meeting in Osage Beach, MO, in January 2019. Composers must be 30 years of age or younger on or before January 1, 2019. The composition must be original and unpublished. The entry must include a full score (no parts) and high quality CD recording.
