Dr. Goldspiel received the 2014 Alabama Music Teachers Association Composition Commission and was a 2013 recipient of the Escape to Create Residency in Seaside, Florida. He is the only guitarist to be honored with the Marshall Dodge Award of the Performing Artists Associates of New England and has been a soloist with the Chamber Orchestra Kremlin, Monroe Symphony Orchestra, Vermont Philharmonic, Sinfonie-by- the-Sea, and served as an Artist-in-Residence for North Carolina's prestigious Visiting Artists Program, presenting over eighty concerts throughout that state. As the Music Director of the Magic Shtetl Klezmer Band, he has performed and arranged many pieces from the classic Klezmer repertoire. His composition project, a Klezmer Shabbat Service, keeps that tradition current. He has received numerous awards for excellence in teaching, research, and service including the Louisiana State Arts Council Artist Fellowship Award for artistic excellence and the University Senate Chair Award from Louisiana Tech University. He has taught at the International Guitar Festival held at the e Hartt School, where he remains the only guitarist to be designated University Scholar for his research on the music of Villa-Lobos. He is Professor of Music and Chair of the Department of Music at the University of Montevallo. He is also a member of the Birmingham Art Music Alliance and President of the National Association of Composers/USA – Mid-South Chapter. Brenda Goodenberger Brenda Goodenberger was initiated as a Friend of the Arts by the Phoenix Alumnae Chapter in March. A singer, dancer, and actress, she not only performs herself but also directs productions, does stage make-up, and works as a stage mom for shows that some of her 9 children participate in. Brenda and her husband Ken, a fellow Friend of the Arts, are active in church and community music groups and can be seen performing e Ken and Brenda Show at numerous venues around the valley. She was featured in concert with the West Valley Symphony, West Valley Chorale, and the City of Glendale Symphonic Band, and sings in numerous professional choirs. Brenda has also been involved in the cosmetics industry for over 22 years. She is an award-winning director also nominated for make-up/hair designer, as well as a props designer, sound designer, stage manager, photographer, t-shirt designer, and stage mom. She is the lead soprano with the Praise Teams at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran and Shepherd of the Hills Methodist churches. Dr. Douglas Gordon Dr. Douglas Gordon was initiated as a Friend of the Arts by the eta Beta Chapter at Jacksonville State University in April. Dr. Douglas Gordon currently resides in Jacksonville, Alabama where he teaches music theory at Jacksonville State. He previously taught at Mars Hill University and in Georgia's Westside Middle School and Ringgold High School. He has lectured at numerous conferences such as Tennessee Music Educators Association Conference, the Collegiate Conference for the Alabama Chapter of NAfME, and the American Choral Directors Association Conference. He has performed with symphony orchestras in Georgia and North Carolina Dr. Gordon received a Bachelor's in Education with a special honors in music and his Master's at Jacksonville State University. He received his Doctorate in Music eory at Florida State University. Andrea Harrell Andrea Harrell was initiated as a Friend of the Arts by the Beta eta Chapter at Sam Houston State University in March. Harrell is an active clarinetist and private instructor in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. She recently completed her Doctorate of Musical Arts in Clarinet Performance and Musicology at the University of North Texas. At North Texas, she was a member of the North Texas Wind Symphony, Symphony Orchestra, and the NOVA ensemble. She conducted research at the Gesellscha der Musikfreunde and the Austrian National Library in Vienna where she uncovered buried information concerning a late nineteenth- century competition for wind chamber music that produced three outstanding chamber works for clarinet. Harrell has worked for several of the state's leading band programs, including e Woodlands High School, L.D. Bell High School, and Hebron High School. Her students have been selected as members of the 5A Texas All-State Bands, have received outstanding ratings and distinctions at various solo festivals, and have been selected as members of the Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra and Wind Ensemble. Most recently, Harrell was named Adjunct Professor of Clarinet at Sam Houston State University. She is an active performer and currently serves as principal of the Odysseus Chamber Orchestra and the New Life Symphony Orchestra. She also performs with the orchestra at Park Cities Baptist Church on Sunday mornings. She completed her Master of Music at the University of North Texas and a Bachelor of Music from Sam Houston State University. Dr. Jason Scott Ladd Dr. Jason Scott Ladd was initiated as a Friend of the Arts by the eta eta Chapter at Nicholls State University in Louisiana in April. Dr. Ladd has been a Professor of Low Brass and Music Education at Nicholls State University and director of the wind ensemble, symphonic band, marching band, and Sixth Man Band since 2015. He is the main advisor for all music education majors and student interns. Additionally, he runs the Bayouland Sight Reading Clinic and actively recruits high school students. Previously, he taught for six years at Marquette University where he led the orchestra, symphonic band, and co-directed the pep band. He has also taught courses at Florida State University, served as an adjunct professor of tuba and euphonium at Syracuse University, and was a public school teacher at various levels in the state of New York. As a tuba player he has performed with the Binghamton Philharmonic, Eastman Philharmonia and Wind Ensemble, Florida State University Philharmonia and Wind Orchestra, Louisiana Philharmonic, Monroe Symphony, Symphoria, the Wisconsin College and University Faculty Brass Ensemble, and the Utica Symphony as well as with the national touring company for the musical Chicago.
